Where to stay in Arles
Okay, trip is mostly planned for Provence in July. We bought the cheap Alitalia tickets, so I will pray for no strikes and continue on as normal. We are set for two nights in Vaison, two nights in Goult than two nights in question and finally four nights in the alpes. Based on all the wonderful advice, we finally made up our mine to stay in Arles for those two nights in question. Although I know I will get some go to St Remy instead. If there is still room, we are thinking about Hotel Calendal. Any experiences or advice here? And you St Remy fans feel free to change my mind

job816,
Hotel le Calendal is a very good choice. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I would suggest that you request Chambre #4. It has a large terrace and a terrific bathroom. Also make sure that you reserve parking.
St. Remy is a short, scenic drive from Arles. You drive past Les Baux and Glanum.

We stayed at the Calendal and enjoyed it immensely. Only two pieces of advice, I wouldn't take the on-site parking as it is a teeny tiny garage in which they cram 4 or 5 cars and it is really only meant for 2. Also, and FYI, there is no lift.

We stayed at the Hotel d'Arlatan and loved it-reasonable cost in a very old, but beautifully restored hotel. The location was great because it was easy access into and out of Arles by car but was very close walking distance to anywhere you wanted to go. It has onsite easy parking as well.

swalter beat me to it. I adored the d'Arlatan! It's a beautiful place. The first night we stayed there - quite a few years ago - was the first time I ever ate tellines with aïoli, in some little hole-in-the-wall restaurant a few blocks away. Got addicted right there and then.

Tellines are tiny, tiny clams, or shellfish of some sort that I associate with clams, steamed in aïoli, which is a thick garlic mayonnaise. To die for. They are so tiny that you literally shovel a spoonful of them into your mouth, then spit out the shells while enjoying the creamy combination of shellfish and aïoli.

One more recommendation for L'Calendal. One of our all-time favorite hotels on our European trips.
If you have a car and don't wish to use their garage, there is metered parking just a few steps across from the hotel and it was very easy to pay the meters to keep our rental car legal.
Arles is wonderful. I know you will love it.
