Where to go in Northern/Eastern Germany tomorrow?

This is a tough one. It's midnight now and I have a "Bahn" ticket to go anywhere (and return )in Germany this weekend. I need to be back at work in Munich on Monday, so I made a hotel reservation in Leipzig (downtown) on Sunday to take the early morning flight back to Munich on monday. So the question is Munich to ??? on Saturday and ??? to Leipzig on Sunday.

Where would you go? Hamburg, Berlin, Flensburg, Baltic coast, North sea, Spreewald, Mecklenburg, Poland...
How do I get the best "mileage" out of the ticket and still won't be too stressed due to lack of sleep on monday... The first trains from Munich northbound leave at about 5:40h, just 5:30h from now.

hi, logos,

assuming you're still awake, how about dresden - big enoguh for there to be lots to see, not so big as to be unmamageable.

or if you need excitement, Berlin.

have a great time,

regards, ann

PS don't forget teh trip report!

I don't know where you've been, logos, but I'd agree that Dresden and/or Berlin would be great choices. I've been here in Berlin since last Saturday am, with a side trip to Dresden, and we have had such fun. With your plan to take a train before 6am Sat am and an early flight on Monday am, I don't know how you are going to avoid being exhausted!

I love Luebeck and Travemonde. Probably too cold to enjoy Travemonde.

Thanks! I`m on the train to Berlin now. From there Iīll be going to Frankfurt/Oder tomorrow, then to Cottbus and Leipzig with some stops. Anything I shouldnīt miss on the way? Are some shops open 224h in Berlin today?

logos: Is this for real or a troll? A Bavarian's discovery trip to the new states ? I hope you will post a trip report if it is. It would be interesting to find out what the new states are like from a Bavarian perspective. We are heading to Berlin in a few days so we'd appreciate your tips on Frankfurt on the Oder and Cottbus. What about Lubben/Lubbenau or Goerlitz?

You must be referring to the 24hr shopping at Dussmann during last Advent. It looks like those hard working Berliners are still keeping the store open till midnight now:

ŧ Bavarian's discovery trip to the new states ?
Yes, it sure will be intersting. The trainīs in Naumburg right now. I havnīt been to all those places before. I won`t be able do to much today , since the train will arrive at 7.30pm. Tomorrow I want to limit myself to Frankfurt and Cottbus, but if Lubben and Görlitz are interesting too why not. I just have to be in Leipzig tomorrow evening, otherwise Iīm flexible
