Where to go from Budapest

Hello,

I am taking my parents on a trip for their 50th anniversary. We are flying into Budapest and I am thinking we will stay there for 2-3 nights. Our total trip is 10 nights so I am trying to figure out what other countries and cities we should go to. My dad loves history, but my mom has some difficulty walking long distances. If anyone can offer suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!

Vienna is an easy train ride away and Prague after that.

Krakow isn't so easy by train (maybe a long bus ride or a very long train with connections), but that would be a great addition also.

I presume you'd fly home out of Vienna, Prague, or Krakow so do the whole thing as an open jaw.

With only ten nights, Budapest and Vienna should be plenty, maybe with a day trip to Bratislava and another to Melk. Budapest rates more than 2-3 nights.

I would definitely plan to visit Bratislava - the old city center - for at least a night. It's an easy train ride from Budapest and absolutely gorgeous.

Yes, Bratislava and fabulous Vienna ! Yr. father will emjoy seeing the Austro-Hungarian Empire's remnants and yr. mother will love taking walking breaks in the cafes with delectable pastries.
