Where to eat in Prague?
My nana and me are going to Prague in mid-September for a few days and she has kindly paid for the trip. I want to take her somewhere special for dinner as a thank you and wondered if anyone has any suggestions? I am a student so not too much spare cash but then again want it to be nice so I can pay a maximum of 60-80 pounds (though it'd have to be really special for the 80)! Also, i'm vegetarian. Any suggestions much appreciated.

The Flambée at 5, Husova, (near the Old Town) is my favorite. An expensive Michelin starred (I believe) restaurant is in the lower level, and the inexpensive restaurant is up a few steps from street level. The same kitchen serves both, and the food is wonderful and cheap in the upper part. It is small, so I suggest you make reservations. A blackboard shows the special of the day (in English) and a regular menu has a more elaborate offering. I eat fish, but not meat, and my meat-eating family and I were very happy here. The menu is more French than Czech. I love Prague! Boots Newstrom

Bellavista has that rare combination of killer view (the best view in Prague) and outstanding cooking. It is near the Castle but you'll want a taxi as it is at the top of a very large hill.
Here's a website that includes the BellaVista (The owners, Kolkovna Group, also owns some other nice restaurants):

We found two great places - the restaurant next to the opera house, which was very nouvelle cuisine for Prague, and the restaurant under the municipal hall, which was much more traditional, but still excellent. we went there after the new years eve concert and it was a terrific evening.
When you get there, you will find that there are a lot of "puppet shows" advertised - we went to one just on spec and it was very good.
Hve you thought of going to the opera - it is top class and very cheap.

www.expat.cz has a review of Prague's vegetarian restaurants. Also, my wife tends to order vegetarian and she very much enjoyed the spinach crepe entree at Restaurant Mucha, which is not a vegetarian restaurant but does have enough vegie based foods that you would be able to put together a nice dinner. It it is a white table cloth, tuxedoed waiter, elegant type restaurant decorated with Alfons Mucha posters and a beautiful and unique glass ceiling. Prices range from about 150-250 Kc for appetizers and about 250-450 Kc for entrees. It is located about 150 meters from the old town square on a street that I believe is called Melontrichova.
