I thought I could easily buy Michelin Map #315 (Alsace) at either Borders or B&N, or at least order one. Not. So, I looked at Amazon.com, and there I can get one which will ship sometime between 1-3 mos. Need it mid-Oct. What's with the difficulty in getting these maps? It's been a few years since I have tried to buy one, and it was pretty simple back then. Does anyone know another online source or another brand of maps?

I took a look at the Michelin site and found that map 315 does not exist. The Alsace Lorraine map is 516.

I think the name for the map I want is Bas Rhin and Haut Rhin--I just said Alsace.
OTOH, maybe what I am looking for is old and therefore 516 is the one I want.
Can only think of one small, local bookstore that is still remaining in Pgh, but I will ask them. Good suggestion.

I put Bas Rhin and Haut Rhin into the search box and came up with nothing. Periodically Michelin changes their maps.

How sad that there is only 1 small book store near you in Pittsburgh. I love my little book store. I call and order what I need and they usually have it for me the next day, without shipping charges, and they send out 15% off coupons that I can use, even on special orders. Too bad the likes of Borders, B&N, and Amazon have put these small places out of business.

It's called 'Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Territoire De Belfort' # 315 in Michelin Local France map series. Last published in 2008. In France, it's part of Cartes Departements series and costs 4.50 euro. Easy to pick up in France, esp in the region.

I just ordered and received a Michelin 315 for Alsace from Language Quest. I got it on sale for 2.95. I think they're back to 7.95, but still a good buy.

Another option would be #131 ZOOM series of Michelin. In contrast to the regional or departemental road maps, the ZOOM series does not "stop" at political borders but has the whole touristically "relevant" area of the Upper Rhine Valley in one map, from the Vosges to Black Forest. The scale of 1:200K is pretty good, the only drawback would be the publishing date of 2004.

Check out the Globecorner bookstore.com. It's in Boston and I check it out because they have a large selection of maps. I've found less maps this season than ever before. I checked out several sites and did not find a map of Israel that satisfied me This year. I gues GPS is the way to go, though I prefer a map to plot trips. Checkout maps2anywhere.com

I buy almost all of my Michelin (or IGN) maps at hypermarkets in France -- or else at FNAC.

I wonder if the GPS systems are why the big bookstores aren't carrying/ willing to order the maps now. Love my Garmin, but it's good to see the bigger picture on a map.
