Where to avoid hot Europe weather in July

Looking for a destination in Europe in July that's not too hot and crowded, where we may find romantic/luxury inn & enjoy a local culture. Suggestions?

European weather is becoming extremely unpredictable. No place except the extreme north is truly safe from a heat wave. On the other hand, I spent 3 days in Venice in July 05 and the weather was beautiful, sunny in the mid 70's.

My experience has been that Paris is not at all crowded mid-late July. In fact, many hotels offer discounts starting July 15.

The heat, well that is a bit of a gamble. Personally I hate anything above 90 F, and during the occasional heat spells I just duck into an A/C'd museum or head to the Paris beach and cool off.

I love Paris though, and no weather conditions would ever keep me away!

My experience with Paris in July is that it is terribly humid. Although it was not so terribly hot (low 80s probably), it was incredibly humid. And it's often much hotter than that in July. I can't recommend Paris to someone who is specifically trying to avoid hot weather.

Just to point out that Scandinavia is quite hot in the summer due to 20+ hours of daylight - and the mossies give Scottish midges a run for their money.

If you want to avoid hot weather then try Ireland or go high to a ski resort

Ireland is good from the weather point of view but is very busy in July.

I would suggest Austria - parts of which are not touristic at all in the summer. The weather is good but not overly hot and the prices are great.
