where is Le Crestet?

I have notes from a Fodorite who raves about Le Crestet. Where is it and what makes it so great? Is it worth a trip?

It's a village in Provence, north of Avignon, close to Vaison-la-Romaine, which is a nice little town.

Here's a link to a webpage about it. It's in french, but you can look at the pictures :

Looks charming. Maybe we'll drop in when we're in the area in a few weeks. Rick Steves' book "Provence and the French Riviera" includes Le Crestet on a driving tour of the region, and notes, "The village's only business, café-restaurant 'Le Panoramic', has an upstairs terrace with a view that justifies the name".

I noted a British flag at the bottom of the web site that clairobscur gave. You can see the same page in English at:

http://www.provenceweb.fr/e/vaucluse...et/crestet.htm

Stripping back the URL, you can find the Provence Web (English version) at:

http://www.provenceweb.fr/e/provpil.htm

From there you can find pages on all the major cities and villages of Provence and the Côte d'Azur. From that page, click on the left under ""Visits" on either "Provence" or "The Côte d'Azur" (both those links go to the same place). Then on the left, click under "Villages".

Despite the efforts of the French Academy, English is creeping into French usage. On the first of the Provence Web pages, note on the right the link to "Zoomable Maps". On the corresponding French page at:

http://www.provenceweb.fr

this shows up as "cartes zoomables".

Zoom, zoom, zoom.

......There is an avant-garde art
gallery at Le Crestet. The sculptures
and objets d'art are sited down the
side of the hill......interesting if
a bit surreal!

......the village itself is tiny, tiny
tiny but adorable and the view is worth
the narrow, winding road.

I took a walk through vineyards and olive groves from Vaison to Le Crestet few years ago, as the previous posts:it is a lovely tiny village, with wonderful views, the art gallery is quite interesting, worth a detour.

Nearby Seguret is another beautiful well-kept village. The restaurant perched on top of the hill offers good food and view.
