My 20 year old son and I are going to France for 3 weeks in June; we know from previous visits to be wary of pickpockets. As a female I carry my purse close to my body or have even worn my backpack on my chest instead of my back. In October chances are you wear a jacket and can put a wallet in an inside pocket but in June it could be just t-shirts...so what do you guys do??? Fanny packs??

I use a device that hangs on my belt, but it is worn inside of my trousers.<BR>It could be stolen, but someone would have to half undress me first.<BR><BR>For small amounts of money, I use my billfold, but I bought a pair of trousers that have zippered pocket. <BR>I am not sure if the zipper would stop a really skilled pickpocket, but I think it might cause him or her to alter the game plan a bit.<BR><BR>I never carry much cash on me, and I use my credit card a lot because of that reason.<BR><BR>A pack around the waist is a sitting duck. It is exposed and obvious, hence vulnerable.<BR>

Regardless of where you put your wallet, I have a good piece of advice that's come through trial and error:<BR><BR>MY HELPFUL TIP OF THE DAY:<BR><BR>Take EVERYTHING except ONE credit/ATM card and the cash you need for the day out of your wallet and leave it either at home (preferably) or in the hotel safe.<BR><BR>I had done just this in order to switch to a new wallet, and on that trip, my purse was stolen. I was incredibly relieved that I only lost the one ATM card and a small amount of cash (and the digital camera with all of our pictures from the trip, but that's another story . . . ).<BR><BR>My husband immediately looked in his wallet, and did an inventory of what he would have lost if his wallet had been taken - all credit cards, driver's license, membership cards, frequent flyer cards, etc.

Hi;<BR>I do two things: For things I don't need readily,(passport, tickets, extra credit cards..etc) I use a money belt.<BR>For a wallet, there are several travel clothing sites on the web which sell pants that have special zipper pockets for a man's wallet. I bought a pair, (which are wrinkle free to boot) which has the zipper pocket right next to your front pockets. They are remarkably comfortable and very secure.

On the days that he didn't wear the pants with the special zipper pocket, he carried a small amount of cash and one credit card in his FRONT PANTS POCKET. Not as easy to get into without your noticing. Passport and other cash, credit cards were kept in travel wallet that tucked into the front of his pants.

FYI, the pockets do work. My husband watched (and actually got a picture) of someone pickpocketing me outside of the Colosseum - I never felt a thing! And I had those hidden zipper pants, so it seemed to outsmart even the fairly good pickpockets!

You can buy money belts from travel stores but with cr cards, atm cards etc this may not work. <BR>I bought 5 of the white heavyduty fabric pocket t-shirts and wore them under lightweight sport shirts and dress shirts, and kept my wallet in the t-shirt pocket. You should keep the wallet as streamlined as possible. I also kept a very thin wallet with a few small bills in it as a decoy. This way the pickpocket doesn't feel the need to be violent when he finds 2-3 dollars/euros instead of an empty wallet.<BR>I did this in 80-85 deg F for 2 weeks in Italy. I wasn't uncomfortable with the heat and we spent 2 days walking from place to place in Rome.

Ever since I got pickpocketed on the infamous 64 bus I have never used a wallet.<BR><BR>I keep only a small amount in my front trouser pocket.<BR>Large amounts I keep in my boxer shorts pockets - so they would have to undress me first.<BR><BR>In winter I keep it in my shirt pockets under my pullover.

since i carry a wallet little larger than a business card case and wear over the calf socks, they become a convenient and not uncomfortable repository.<BR><BR>a pick pocket is unlikely to stoop to ground level for a snatch.

I carry my wallet in my front pants pocket. I used to put a wide rubber band around it according to a suggestion I had read. This makes it very difficult to slip out of your pocket, but I stopped because it made it too difficult for me to do so also and annoyed me. I had an attempted pickpocket experience in Rome (and being politically correct I won't say it was by two Gypsy girls, but both girls were dressed to appear like Gypsies). They had seen me put my wallet in my pocket and approached me with their newspaper and one of them pulling my other arm saying, &quot;Ah, American!!&quot;, but they were unable to get my wallet out of my front pocket -- even without the rubber band. I really believe it would be very difficult if not impossible for anyone to do so without my knowing it.

As I've posted before, I SAW a pickpocket put his hand in a man's FRONT POCKET while the man was putting his metro ticket in the turnstile in Paris. It takes 2 seconds, you DON'T notice it. <BR><BR>Nobody can be completely &quot;aware of their surroundings&quot; every second.

Hi<BR> I carry a little wallet on a cord that goes around my belt with the wallet hanging down my pants leg.<BR><BR> I carry some cash in my front trouser pocket and close the pocket with a safety pin.<BR><BR> I put my cigarettes in my socks.

<BR><BR>I do what I always do: I put my wallet in my back pocket.<BR>I also keep a wad of cash and a credit card in my front pocket, but I do that at home too.<BR>There is no foolproof way to guarantee anything. I just act confident, act like I know where I'm going (when usually I don't), and don't fumble around with a map (nothing screams &quot;hapless tourist&quot; more than a map.)

I carry mine in my front pocket, with a chain that attaches to my belt loop. I highly doubt they'd bother trying to pick my wallet since the chain is pretty visible, and I'd assume would be a pain in the ass to remove before picking the wallet.
