Where could we stay between Dijon and Geneva?
Hi All
We will be staying in Geneva/Beaune December 18 and 19 then we were planning to stay in a smaller town/village nearer Geneva, where we drop our car at 10 am on the 20th, and meet our kids then head to Morzine for Christmas.
Can anyone suggest a smallish village and Pension style accommodation between Dijon and Geneva. We think it would be too far to drive from Dijon to Geneva by 10am!!
We are finding it difficult to locate information in this area.
Hope you can help and thanks.

You could stay in walled town of Pérouges, which is 1.5 hour from Geneva. ViaMichelin gives acost of 50€, including the Swiss vignette for traveling on its superhighways. Make sure you drop off the car on the French side if rented in France to avoid stiff cross-border penalties.
There are two B&Bs in Pérouges, almost next to each other. One appeared to be quite fancy, the other was quite affordable.
From my trip report:
In Pérouges the cheaper B&B (62&euro
(in the Gîtes Internet guide it is Chambre n°G290502 - à PEROUGES (l'Ain)) had a room, which we never expected given that the town at the base of the hill was crawling with weekend visitors--it was a Saturday and Pérouges is one of the better known plus beaux villages within an hour and half of Lyon.

Thanks Michael
It looks nice. I guess we could leave at 7.30am and leave ourselves time to find the airport hire desk.
We are dropping our car on the Swiss side as it is a German car and we actually got a better rate renting in Munich and dropping in Geneva than hiring in St Gallen and dropping Geneva!
How much is the Swiss Vignette as we will only be on Swiss roads for 1/2 an hour!!??
Thank you again

Allow yourself plenty of time to make wrong turns & get confused around the Geneva airport. We picked up & dropped off 2 cars there this year, and got lost both times. Lots of confusing signs, and also lots of construction.
If you check a map, Perouges is kinda out of the way on the drive to Geneva. Also, although it is a very cute village, it is quite small and once you have visited he villge (1 hr), there isn't much to do there. Driving around Lyon during rush hour on a Friday get-away day just before Christmas could be a real mess. I think I would try to avoid the Lyon area altogether. I've driven from Beaune to Perouges during commute hours and the traffic was stopped dead - we ended up taking smaller roads.
If you really have to be at the airport at 10, I would try to get within a 30 min drive of the airport complex. This past July we had reservations at a hotel in Coppet Switzerland, on the lake & just a tad north of Geneva. Unfortunatly, because of the Luftansa strike, we had to fly from Geneva a day early & we missed our stay in Coppet.

Near Pérouges is a nice 2-star hotel. It's in La Boisse about 10 minutes from Pérouges. I stayed there in May between Beaune and Annecy.

Here are some photos of it under 'Lodging,'then 'La Boisse.' There are also photos of Pérouges under "France 2008'

Hi RosieinOz
Don't quite get your post - will you be staying in Beaune until December 19th? If so, where does Dijon enter into the equation?
If staying in Beaune, I would simply drive to Geneva airport on the 19th (2 hours thundering down the A6 and then the impressive A40, which curves and tunnels its way through the Jura range), drop the car at Geneva airport and stay at a hotel by the airport, meeting your kids the next morning.
There are numerous lodging options near the airport: Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn Express, Ibis, Moevenpick and more.
The city center is very close, you can easily have dinner in town if in the mood.
The Swiss side of the airport is very easy to find, and I recall seeing clear signs for rental car returns as well. Regarding the vignette for using Swiss highways: it costs CHF 40.- and you can avoid it by taking local roads from the St-Julien-en-Genevois exit of the A40 highway - see the handy map & route descriptions from Geneva airport:

You would be using route B.
Hope this helps,
Andre
