When to book train travel

Today I am booking my France train travel for an upcoming summer trip. When will I be able to book an August 1 train from Bern to Zurich airport? Do I benefit from advance booking or can it be done for the same price at the station or on the train?

Thanks.

the direct trains from Bern to ZRH airport leave every 30 minutes and take 72 minutes. Tickets for tomorrow cost 28CHF. Tickets for dates about 2 weeks out are as low as 19.50 CHF depending on the time.

I never book train tickets in Switzerland...with the exception of Super Saver tickets or Saver Day Passes. Super Saver tickets are for a specific train on a specific day and completely non-refundable. Saver Day Passes are also non-refundable, but valid on the selected day until 5 a.m. the following day. Bern to Zurich is not a route you'd save much (if anything) on by buying in advance. Just buy it when you need it.
