I have searched and searched for places to rent a wheelchair for my dear mom. We are arriving in Frankfurt on November 13th and I am in real need of a wheelchair, any help is much appreciated.

Hi TM101, I haven't found a specific site yet that has wheelchair rentals in Frankfurt, but what I have found is that some of the larger hotels in Germany have wheelchairs for rent. Have you asked your hotel if they have one you can rent? Also, was wondering if you could rent one from wherever you're originating (say the UK or the US or wherever) and then bring it with you on the plane?
If you read German...or know someone who does....these sites might be of some use to you - I hope!

I found a reference to wheelchair rental in Berlin. I know it's not Frankfurt, but you might consider calling this place anyway, and asking them if they have any idea who you could rent from, in Frankfurt.
Here's the website: http://edition.cnn.com/WEATHER/bta/n...erlinEDBB.html
And here's the quote from that page:
"Disabled Advisory
For information on transportation, accessibility of facilities and wheelchair rental, call Verband Geburts & anderer Behinderte at 341-1797. "

Found another reference on a different website - again, not for Frankfurt, but Munich this time, but it might be of some help anyway....
http://www.munichfound.de/new.cfm?News_ID=1572
And the quote from that page:
"If you need to hire equipment for your stay, the Bayerisches Rotes Kreuz (Bavarian Red Cross; Tel. [089] 237 30) rents wheelchairs and equipment. If they do not have what you need, they will refer you to one of the many central Orthopädische Fachgeschäfte (orthopedic specialist dealers), who will be able to help."
I haven't been able to find anything else, so I hope this helps at least a little. Good luck!

Dear tripletmom,
I called my dad in Heidelberg to ask about hwere to get a wheelchair (he used to work for a company producing medical supplies).
He says wheelchairs can be rented in larger Shops offering medical supplies. They are called Sanitaetshaeus in German (ae is the a with two dots...).
I could give you a list of those for Frankfurt; you'd probably have to call them and ask, though.
Another option is contacting the Frankfurt tourist information:
[email protected]
Phone 0049-(0)69-21 23 88 00
Fax 0049-(0)69-21 23 78 80
Or ask the people in the city office: [email protected]

Dear Carole,
I hope you found a wheelchair hire in Frankfurt. We just started a new online marketplace called Travelhands, where we help travellers who need complementary travel services, like wheelchair hire www.travelhands.eu
We started in Germany and would love to help next time. Either you can find offers for wheelchair rental on our site, or you post your request and we will help you in your search.
Kind regards,
Nicole
