I've tried to keep out of this dogfight but maybe I could make one point. The French have an expression.

Vive la Difference!

This is why travelling is fun.

not quite, but nearly right...lol ;-)

Then it hits land and rises ...it cools, condenses and it rains.

This rainwater some how finds its way back to the sea and the cycle starts again.

Have another try, you'll get it lol

blackduff,

They say criticism is the most sincere form of flattery.

You're right. Vive la difference! When I visit French beaches I will make sure I take a shower every five minutes.

I just want to ask the French, that when they visit the US, please do not order the water "without ice". Order with extra ice. When in Rome

Vive la difference.

They even have showers at beaches in The Hamptons for those who aren't invited to Spielberg's house to be gently doused with Bling H2O.

Not nearly as much as the energy used to treat all that water used in the showers!

One shower=10 gallons
One cup of ice=.01 gallons

Paris Plages has mist machines that work constantly, with or without people under them, even on days when the weather is not hot.

Spssssss.... actually, the output is not much more than an ice cube.

I'm mystified why this post warrants 89 (and counting) replies. Who cares why they do things in another country? It's how they do things. Aren't there "inexplicable" things done in our/your country?

well how about brining all the sand into the city for Paris Plage? must certainly be something wasteful about that

To the disappointment of all, there is actually very little sand at Paris Plages. Just 3 or 4 symbolic zones with a little sand. Most of the rest is just the asphalt of the expressway, or the cobblestones of the Bassin de la Villette.

I have a moment as I run the tap to wait for the water to heat up. I'm glad I'm writing this around 1:00 p.m in 80 degree weather as I find it to be the perfect time to water my lawn. Come to think of it I think I'll leave the sprinklers on extra long so my dog can run through them to cool off! Oh! And I need to remember to fill up my hot tub. Wait! The water in the tap is showing steam, I guess it's hot enough. Whew! Now I can have some hot tea while I take an extra long shower to wash off all of the disdain and acrimony in this post! If only I knew how to insert an emoticon.....
