What's the Longest Ride on a Trenitalia Eurostar Train?

Can anyone guess what is the longest single ride on a Trenitalia Eurostar Italia (ES) train?

Hint: from a city in northwestern Italy to a city in the "heel" of Italy.

Answer to come in a couple of days.

Is anyone willing to hazard an answer?

Well I know there's one from Torino to Lecce. I can't imagine that it goes any further in either direction, but your hints would pretty much give that away anyhow, so I suppose there's a trick to this answer I'm missing.

GAC, Aosta to Lecce is about 15 hours, while Aosta to Palermo is about 22 hours. I'll send you my e-mail address, so you can contact me about where to send the prize.

Oops, upon recheck, Aosta to Lecce is 20:40, while Aosta to Palermo is 17:40. Do I get a second chance?

Wait! What do you mean by longest? Time or distance? I could swear the first time I checked the schedule showed Aosta to Palermo as about 22 hours. Maybe it has something to do with the day of the week?

Betsy, you can take a train from Aosta to Lecce in just over 13 hours, but I wasn't aware of a Eurostar train from Aosta. You have to take a local to Torino to get the ES. As far as I can tell, that's where they start.

Also I didn't think there was a Eurostar to Palermo.

By the way, Palermo isn't in the "heel" of Italy.

Patrick! I know Palermo isn't in the "heel." I thought GAC may have been in error. Silly me

Read the question too fast and missed the ES parameter. Scratch my replies please.

Yes, Betsy, silly you. GAC is never in error to my knowledge. His advice and details are flawless.

OK, GAC do I get the prize or what's the answer?

Fodorites, I'm pleased to report that Patrick is the winner of the contest: the longest single ride on a Trenitalia Eurostar Italia (ES) train is indeed from Torino to Lecce, 11 hours for a one-way fare in first class of 85.22 Euros (or 29 Euros with the "Eurostar a 29 Euro" promotion). Patrick's reward is the recognition by fellow Fodorites that he is very knowledgeable about Italian train service.

Betsy's response is very creative, and is to be commended, but (i) there is no Eurostar service from Aosta; and (ii) there is no DIRECT train service from Aosta to southern Italy.

So far, there is no Eurostar service from Rome to Sicily. All DIRECT trains are either ICplus, ICN, or EXP. The bottleneck of the Straits of Messina probably renders Eurostar service counterintuitive. Once the bridge over the Straits is completed, there may yet be Eurostar service to Sicily as well.

Oh, GAC, you are so picky! Kudos to Patrick. Torino to Lecce just seemed too obvious.

I think I need to look up Lecce on a map. I can barely handle Torino.
