What's the first thing you do when you get home from a trip?

I'd wager that 90% of people in the UK and Ireland would say "Put the kettle on".

But what do non-teadrinkers do?

(It's Friday and I can't get on with today's job until someone else does a particular task - well, that's my excuse).

Think about unpacking but try to find anything else to do instead (after I kiss the pooch, of course).

I'm one of the other 10%: I put the coffee maker on. Then I put the kettle on for Herself; she's one of your 90%.

Put the kettle on for tea. The dogs will still be at the Vet until the next morning. Usually try to toss a load of laundry in, then when that's done it's off to bed.

Unpack the presents, then go for a short leg-stretching walk with DH and the dog, have a snack, read the paper or watch a bit of news, then crash.

When I'm traveling to someplace, I can't wait to unpack and get everything put away. But when I get home, I hate unpacking.

My youngest calls out "Hello house" as soon as he gets in - then the kids run around 'remembering' their toys, their rooms etc. I open windows and comment on how the grass has grown (we never seem to travel in winter!). My husband says "it was a good trip, but it's great to be home!"

Take a shower, start unpacking and go to bed. And I always take the next day off work as my 'recovery day' - traveling is really hard on me and it takes me 2 weeks to get back to normal.

Sometimes from the US back to Switzerland, go right to work so I don't waste a vacation day. If I go to visit my family on my own, then I kiss my husband first when I land in Geneva!

Kiss the ground.

Begin a 12-step program of physical recovery.

Check mail, change the cat litter box, read the note from the house sitter, call my family then start the laundry.

Unpack and start the wash, feeling grateful for my nice washer and dryer.
