GALERIE BREHERT on the Seine is the gallery that we bought our painting from.We walked past there one night after dinner and saw it in the window, the next morning there we were when they opened..could not have had a more pleasant experience! We also go to the Galerie Maeght on rue de Bac.In the 60's my husband bought a Picasso lithograph from them, we go back every year but have never gotten anything quite as wonderful as that~but I did pick up a set if 6 flower watercolors this time...Have a wonderful time shoping~C

Oh Renee, I am sorry but I cannot remember and I have no idea where the receipts are for the watercolors.We bought a few things, they were not too expensive though, they will cost more to frame than they cost! BUT- I also remembered a great place if you are interested in Jean Cocteau's works, there is a lady named Anne Marie Berger, she knew Jean Cocteau! and has the most wonderful amount of his work and you can get things at all prices, posters to originals..she is at 14 rue de Seine, the name is GALERIE ANNE JULIEN.If for no other reason, it is fun to browse ,also at the Antiquarius near the Louvre, this is a very expensive antiques "mall" and there is a guy there that carries only Cocteau.His prices are out of sight but it is fun to look and pretend>

I have never been to Paris so I probably should not answer but my parents go all the time - and the best thing brought back to me besides 2 great prints I have framed on my walls is my fold up Longchamp bag! I call it my Mary Poppins bag...thanks Mom!

I hate to be negative here, but as in interior designer one of my worst assignments has been to find a place to hang the "original Parisian artwork" that half of my clients seem to bring home. Most of these paintings or prints are invariably the worst pieces of art in their collections. I know there is supposed to be some sentimental value, but why is it that so many people will buy mediocre art on a trip that they wouldn't look twice at if they passed it in a Goodwill thrift shop?

OK Patrick, you say you hate to be negative, but you went ahead and got negative anyway...what makes you think that anyone here is talking about mediocre artwork? what makes you an art critic-being a decorator? And being in the business you say you are in, don't you know by now that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that people like all kinds of art, that something sentimental might give more pleasure than something someones decorator went out and bought for them? What does your little barb have to do with this thread? Have you bought something you like in Paris? That is what this is about...

Aren't those "bijoux" fantastique? <BR> <BR>I found them when the store was still at Rue de Rivoli, and the shop was nearly as small as a shoe box. They were already wonderful designers by the time. I bought my daughters some lovely earrings, necklaces and bracelets there, eight years ago. Still now, when they wear their Cecile & Jeanne accessories, they always get nice compliments on their bijoux. Whenever I am in Paris, I check the store, although it's now at Fb. St. Honoré. Trés chic! <BR> <BR>S

My favorite--a great silk scarf from one of the little shops on rue de Rivoli near the Louvre. My husband's favorite is a great professional mandolin (vegetable slicer) from one of the restaurant supply shops on rue Montmartre, 2e, metro: Les Halles. There are several stores in this area with the greatest selection of cookware and utensils.

Oh, this is easy! We collect vintage advertising posters, and were at an antique expo in Parc Monceau last year looking at a dealer's booth. We found an original large scale poster that says "The de Chine" and shows a Chinese person in traditional dress (and with their queue) sipping a cup of tea. It has fabulous colors, blends China and France, and fits so well into our decor (art deco, blend of Chinese and Western). This is my favorite travel purchase of all time!!

The best, hm... I buy most things (clothes, shoes, bags, etc.) in Paris. <BR>Bests: Longchamp bags (leather and nylon), bathing suits from Le Bon Marché (amazing choice in spring), Annick Goutal perfumes (hard to get outside France), shoes from Rudy's, Rue Saint-Placide (prices can't be beat).

Very definitely it was our dining room table. We were living there, had just gotten married, and needed to furnish our home. We like the classics of the 20th C, and learned that France has a far more varied and extensive furniture selection than the US. <BR>We bougtht a Frank Lloyd Wright design, the Allen Table, made by Cassina (Italy) at Collectania, a store just across the Rue de Rivoli from the Louvre.
