What's that European Music Channel?
On TV in Europe there was a music channel that was more like US MTV 20 years ago (it actually played videos).
It wasn't MTV, and I can't remember the name. Anyone know?

I know what you're talking about but can't remember the name either. The channel plays lots of upbeat music as I recall. I used to let it play while I was getting ready to go in the mornings.
I have to say it starts with an E but that doesn't offer much help.
Did many americans on this board notice that there was lots of porn on French TV - the regular stations? That would be very odd flipping through the channels with your family!

MTV in Europe varies from country to country. In Belgium, we got MTV from France, which was more like the "old" MTV (which means it was more like VH1; in fact it plays PopUp videos and other VH1 programs). There was a French music channel, MCM, I think, which showed a lot of French videos (in both MTV and MCM, the hosts spoke French). We've in Germany now, so our MTV is the German version, which means a lot more rap and German videos and the hosts are German. Viva is here, too.

Quinty, as siena says, there are many music channels in many countries in Europe. We need specifics (there's a big tendency on this board to talk of Europe as one country - we are as alien to each other as we are to americans)

Speaking of all the different TV channels in general, I think, we are very lucky with the possibility of being able to compare and learn about the different mentalities and opinions in each country.
I have some 54 different channels that include: Swiss, German, Austrian, French, English, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese, etc. next to to some US ones. As far as I know, CNN (just to give an example) has a slightly different programme outside the US though.
Anyway, I absolutely love to watch movies in their original language for which I obviously choose the French or UK channels.
It's also a great way to improve languages.

Sorry guys and gals, didn't know there were so many music channels in Europe!
I guess it makes sense with the different languages (naive American here).
I think that MCM is it, as it was the best in Paris. I think we might have seen it or similar in Brussels, but we enjoyed the tunes in Paris. The reason I can't think of it is my husband had control of the remote so I never really paid that much attention to the programming.
Thanks for all your replies!
