What's happened to bahn.de?

German Railways' website till only a week or so ago provided (more or less accurate) timetables for most of Europe. So you could plan messy cross-border journeys quickly, and check trains for countries you seldom visited without having to learn individual local idiosyncracies.

Now its main journey planner seems to provide data only for trains within Germany. A separate page provides a limited range of routes from a few foreign cities to a few cities in Germany. You can't plan London-Berlin, or Rotterdam to anywhere.

This has knock on effects. To take a specific example: as far as I can see, there's now no single site with all Rome-Florence trains, and the Trenitalia and NTV sites operate on completely different logics.

Does anyone know whether this is a long term policy shift by DB? (I can easily understand the maintenance cost was yielding DB damn all benefits)

Has any bright spark launched a single consolidated, comprehensive (Seat 61 is fine for referring you to other sites, but doesn't provide a proper journey planner) and reliable (so that rules out Rail Europe) European train website?

Hi flanneruk,

It might be something in your computer.

I just tried Rotterdam Centraal - Montreux, and the schedule came up. I also tried Rome - Venice, and the schedule came up. I also tried London - Berlin, and the schedule came up.

Good luck as you work it out.

Still works in the usual way for me.

When you begin typing the first letters of the city it gives you German suggestions, then after a slight delay ( maybe half a second) as you continue typing, non German suggestions appear.

Maybe we've become used to search facilities working so quickly!

Well, thank you all

Still can't get bahn.de to work, but clearly need to reboot and I'll take your collective words it's my machine, not cheese-paring at DB.

lefrecce.it gives only FS trains. NTV ones aren't listed.

Try bahn.com and select UK as your country. I have been searching train schedules all over Europe on this site with no problems
