It's over 100 degrees here, so I'll be at the pool around 8am tomorrow, back indoors around 10am and for the rest of the day. Ditto Sunday, ditto Tuesday. I've got 14 books stacked up and ready to be cracked...no wait, that's 14 BOTTLES OF WINE stacked up and ready to be cracked. <BR> <BR>Five weeks exactly from today, I'll be heading for a week in London and two weeks in Paris.

Today through Monday is the best party of the year in Seattle: Bumbershoot, the annual music & arts extravaganza held at Seattle Center (the public grounds on which the Space Needle is located.) <BR> <BR>I'll be spending tonight and the next three days there, listening (and dancing) to music from people like Marshall Crenshaw, Dave Alvin, Chris Smither, Taj Mahal, Great Big Sea (a great Celtic-rock band from Newfoundland), The Red Elvises (a very fun band comprised of three guys from Russia & the Ukraine, now based out of southern California), and Meshell Ndegéocello. <BR> <BR>http://www.bumbershoot.org/ <BR> <BR>Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Houseguests (former housemates from undergrad days) arriving tomorrow from Toronto; Saturday night we're visiting yet another set of former housemates in my area (who've just purchased thier first home) for a housewarming party. <BR> <BR>Barbecue with friends & guests on Sunday, reading & lazing about on Monday in my yard after guests leave. (So many books, so little time.....) <BR>BC

This weekend it's friends and family over.. relaxing, but we are leaving next Friday for 3 days on Catalina Island to celebrate our 5 year anniversary!!!! (now, who put the last 5 years on fast forward????)

Volunteering at the Humane Society in the morning, shopping for a new car tomorrow afternoon, and then reading, eating, drinking wine and basically doing nothing until Tuesday morning. I just couldn't be happier that it's a holiday weekend.

Sat, trimming ivy. Preparing soil for planting impations when I return from my trip. Installing software on a computer. Working on class notes revisions. BBQ. Cleaning and vacuming house. Is is just me but it never seems to all be done at once? *Sigh* <BR>Tomorrow attend a wedding and hopefully start cleaning out the garage-making room for my new car!!! <BR>Sunday after church we're traveling down to "civilization" to go car shopping! <BR>Otherwise, I'd be pea green (well, I still am but the car helps....) <BR>Monday-back to reality and maybe playing with my new car???? About to go boating with the hubby; it'll be the 1st time this season for just the two of us, as we usually have friends and family along. <BR> <BR>Probably our last trip out prior to leaving for Italy in 2 weeks, Yikes!

It's almost over, so I'm finally hitting the board. We celebrated our anniversary with an overnighter at the Moana on friday, and played in the surf on saturday. Had a fabulous lunch at the Halekulani. Today, after a long dog walk, I'm leisurly getting through Frances Mayle's second book and about to pour myself a glass of wine and go back to the deck. Yesterday, T went to an actual Labor Day event, put together by the university faculty. It was huge, and it culminated with Hawaiian music at Waikiki Shell. I had taken the boys shopping, so we missed the festivities, but heard all about it.

We took a 4 night Carnival cruise from New York to Halifax aboard the Victory, one of the largest and newest ships afloat,and had a great time. It was a nice change from sightseeing in Europe. Very relaxing, just taxied over to the pier and dropped our luggage. From than on we ate, drank, gambled, sun-bathed, listened to good music, and in general had a great time. Unfortunately it's over and back to work. Cruising makes for a nice break in the more hectic schedule of touring Europe and/or the U.S., and is very cost effective particularly if you do not have to add airfare as we luckily did not.

Enjoyed the Tanglewood Jazz Festival and picture-perfect weather in the Berkshires; also the Norman Rockwell Museum (the Norman Rockwell exhibit leaves for the Guggenheim on 9/9); and on to the Impression exhibit at the Clark in Williamstown.

Just a followup. Is anybody home in Britain? I think I must have seen most of you in Stanley Park in Vancouver yesterday morning. You were all mingling with everybody who lives in Milan, and most residents of Kyoto too.
