What to pack for 3 weeks in Italy

I will be in Italy from May 18 to June 7. Venice, Florence, driving about Tuscany and Rome. Any suggestions what a gal should pack and still look fairly put together for dinner, etc.

We go for 3 weeks whenever we go to Italy. My wife usually takes about 5 pairs of pants/capris, a skirt or dress, and about 5 short sleeved tops and two long sleeved that go with all the pants/skirts. She often wears a nice shawl (you can buy in Florence at Mercato Nuovo). We also take a small bottle of Woolite and a travel clothesline. When we arrive in a city for 2-3 days, we wash out some things and hang them up to dry. Works out well. We usually pre test the clothing so we we know how they'll do washing and drying. Works for her.

No matter how long I am gone on a trip greekartist I pack enough for one week. And more than once I have spent 2 months in Italy.

The secret is to mix-match. I don't wear just pants in Italy. I like to take a skirted suit, I use the jacket to go with jeans. One dress, that I can also wear the jacket with if necessary weather wise. A few pant outfits. One pair of jeans, a couple of good looking shirts that work with the jeans or also the pants (from the pant outfits or with the suit (with or without the jacket). Natural materials. I tend to make black my basic color as black travels so well. Always have 3 pair of shoes with me. One for walking, one sandals and one pair of dressy shoes. Also throw in one pair of flipflops..for the beach, the pool or as slippers. Cotton pullover sweater that works with the pants, jean and the skirt to the suit. Don't imagine you will need a trench coat for the period you will be in Italy but if you have a lightweight one you could take it on the plane with you (I get cold on planes) and if there is some rain (if can happen) or a cold day you will be glad to have it. Mine is cut in such a way it will even fit over a suit jacket. Daytime purse and one dressy evening bag.

I try to take (if I can find it) small packets of Woolite, otherwise take a small bottle of Woolite as 2Italy's wife does.

When I need something cleaned or laundered I just figure that is part of the cost of travelling. Have a fun time in Italy..and keep the clothes to the a minimum..you will probably find a few pieces you will want to purchase in Italy.
