What to do with luggage in Pisa?!

We are leaving Siena after several days and heading to Portovenere to stay another few days. Want to stop off in Pisa on our way for a few hours of sightseeing. What do we do with our luggage? (we were planning on taking a train) Heard luggage can't be left at the station. Should we go on to Portovenere drop off luggage at hotel then head back to Pisa? Should we take a day trip to Pisa from Siena (going to San G. and Volterre already, squeeze Pisa in that day?)Help would be greatly appreciated. This will be in July.

I would probably do the day trip as Pisa does not take all that long. Portovenere over seems long to me, but I am not looking at a map.

We were in Pisa a few years ago in a van with 4 people and all our luggage on the way to Portovenere. I stayed in the van with the bags while the other 3 visited the tower. Upon their return I went to the tower with one of the first timers to take photos as I had been there before and they had not.

Bottom line: You do not leave your luggage unprotected in Italy. Especially a van with it all in clear site.

Heather,
I had the same dilemma in February. Go to the tourist info. when you get there. They will point you to a hotel just across the street where you can leave your luggage, for a nominal fee. Otherwise take a short trip to Pisa. Believe me all there is in Pisa is the Piazza of Miracles (leaning tower), that's all.

When we stopped off in Pisa 2 years ago, we checked our luggage at the train station. Has this changed?

How long will it take to drive into Pisa, park (where to park?), and climb the Leaning Tower? On a Saturday morning in June?

That's the beauty of packing light and taking a backpack!

Dayle,
In one of these threads about Pisa, a poster had mentioned (within past few months?) that checking luggage at Pisa train station is no longer an option. Anybody else confirm this is the case?
