What to do with 3 days--Paris or countryside?

After a business meeting, my husband and I have three days in July to spend either in Paris or outside the city. Thinking of Loire Valley or Beaune--is that enough time to do either? We were in Paris last summer but with kids-- so we could stay and have a grown-up visit this time. Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi J,

PARIS, PARIS, PARIS.

A second choice would be Paris.

You've been to Paris why not give the rest of France a chance? It's really very nice.

With 3 days you could easily see a lot in either the Loire Valley or Burgundy.

Either place you could take a train to your destination then rent a car. With 3 days I really recommend you stay in one place. Saves on packing and unpacking.

In Beaune you'd want to travel away from it during the day to avoid the daytrippers then return in the late afternoon to stroll the town as it empties of tourists. I was there in May, it's a pleasant town with a lot to offer especially for wine lovers.

In the Loire valley Amboise gets a lot of recommendations. I really like Saumur and Angers in the western Loire region. There seem to be fewer tourists the further west you go I've never been in July only the shoulder season of late May, early June.

Yes get out into the country-side. France is a beautifull coountry. You can't go wrong with Beaune or Loire Valley. Both are spectacular!

I've never been to either Burgundy or the Loire, but I would love to see Burgundy. I've never felt especially drawn to the Loire valley, though people who've been there mostly seem to love it. Of the three options you gave, I'd pick Burgundy. (But that is NOT an informed choice!)

We love Burgundy second only to Provence--any time you can spend there will be special.
