It takes only a couple of hours to walk the path all around the lake (6 kms), but it is easily worth it. You can take a boat out to the little island and its church. Go up to the "castle" for beautiful vies.
A couple miles away is the Lake Bhinj area, where we also hiked up a fairly short path to the pretty Savica Falls. We also had lunch in the quaint little village of Stara Fuzina.

Hi there: We were in Lake Bled last month and loved it! Rick Steves includes a visit to this beautiful spot in his Eastern Europe DVD. You can read an online script of the show on his web page at:
http://www.ricksteves.com/tvr/slovcroatrse112_scr.htm.

That should give you some good ideas.

Sure wish I were going back!

Dale

We are undecided whether to visit Lake Bled as a day trip from Ljubljana. Would really like to walk Vintgar Gorge as well as Lake Bled. Would this be possible to do in one day or would we be rushed. Is the Gorge worth a visit?

Yes. It is very doable. It is worth it and it is a very serence, lovely place as well as a nice, little walk. You will need to bus or taxi there from Bled, though.

I didn't mention that above, as I was thinking it would be too much. But I see we hiked the length of the Vintgar Gorge and back again in just over an hour and a half. Yes -- it was indeed beautiful, so it would be possible, and incidentally, far more rewarding than the Savica Falls I mentioned above.
