Its been awhile since Iv'e been in Copenhagen use to be there six times a year.But you must go to Tivoli at nite, it's just beautiful in the evening. Also the main walking street is very nice and you must get over to Nyhaven St(along the waterfront). See the little mermaid statue, I was there once and someone cut her head off and there was a big reward posted for the person who did it, it was finally recovered. If you have a auto during your stay, you might drive north to Helsinor and visit the castle. During August, they use to to have a music festival that lasted several days, don't know if they still have them.The days during this period are very long, as the sun doesnot go down fully and at midnight it's not that dark. Played golf once at 10:00PM during the summer months. People are extremely friendly and helpful and many speak English. Try their smorgasbord lunch. Have fun in this city as they are a fun loving country.Have a great time there.

Stroll the pedestrian street (Stroget) to the end. Have dinner at one of the restaurants on the Nyhaven. Walk up the Round Tower and climb the spiral staircase to the steeple of Our Saviour's church. Take a 30-minute train ride to Roskilde to the Viking Ships Museum. The Rosenborg Castle and the Botanical Garden are both very nice if you are interested. The Resistance Museum is a must on every one of my visits there.

Another vote for Tivoli Gardens and Viking Ship Museum.
The national aquarium is up the coast past Hellerup. A main bus line goes right past.
Fredriksborg Castle is the best. Easy half-hour by train.
If you're a beer aficionado, tour the Carlsberg plant. Have a can of Special Export if you don't have to drive home (or walk, for that matter).
Eat pølser (sausage/hot dog) from a street stand. Danish mustard is world-class.

Walk the Stroget, climb the round tower, walk Nyhavn . . . have a beer, eat dinner at an al fresco restaurant in Grayfriars Square (Grabroder Torv, or some such), right behind Helligandskirken on the Stroget.
The music festival peppersalt may be referring to is actually in Roskilde and lasts 4 or 5 days, including the warmup. I believe it's the last week of June / first week of July.
Tivoli Gardens - I would pay to get in and I'm 51 years old. My wife is 34 and she thinks it's lame. The average age seems to be around 65 . . . but only a very cynical person wouldn't find something to enjoy here. I'd go around 11:00pm and be there for the fireworks at midnight or so.
Viking Museum - I wouldn't call myself an intellectual by any stretch . . . and I was bored after about 15 minutes in the viking museum. The entire building encloses a single ship and there's a 400-page books' worth of writing posted near exhibits on the walls and in display cases. The museum is just outside Roskilde and there's nothing else around. I'm not knocking it, I'm just saying it may not be for everyone.
90 Vin Stue at 90 Gammel Kongevej - greatest draft beer in the world. Before tourists began flooding the place in the mid 90s, they'd give you a shot of sherry to sip while they pulled your beer which could take 10 minutes or more. Don't go if you can't tolerate giant clouds of cigarette smoke.

Actually ... I don't really remember ONE ship. Just a bunch of driftwood pieced together skeleton-style to give the appearance of ships found in the only fjord in Scandinavia without mountains on either side.
