What sites suit kids best in Germany?
My wife and I are looking to visit Bavaria, Munich and Salzburg in September with our kids and their 6 year old and 1 1/2 year old girls. Any advice on what to visit and see, as well as what not to visit and see when taking young ones with you to such places?

You will enjoooy Salzburg. The market in the square has fun food and stalls w/ toys for kids.Have a charcoal portrait done there(good and cheap)/ Mirabelle gardens is great for the kids to run around in and many others parks as well
Neuchwanstein castle might be fun. We stayed in Reutte Austria at Gusthoff Zum Schluxen (10 Min from castle) The kids love it here. There are deers you can buy food for and feed. They rent bikes, and sometimes have carriage rides. The Inn keeper is great. They have a fantastic web site with links for the area. If you want to email directly i will send it to you. keep in mind that there is a lot of walking in the castles and a steep hill up to the castle. But they do have horse pulled wagons up. Perhaps wear a back pack thing a child fits in!
Picnics are great fun and low key for children Just to enjoy the scenic alps and beautiful villages all around.
Mittenwald is 66 miles s of Munich, and offers one of the most beautful parts of Germany.Yo could go to the tallest Mt. in Germany- Zugspitze. It takes about 50 min to go up on cable car and cog way railroad. You catch this form Garmisch.
My suggestion is to go a bit further to the Bodensee and stay at one of theh little villages on the lake, hang out on a German beach, boating....
Have a great time, I am rambling on.a

I like the toy museum in Germany. Why don't you drive to Bodensee (Lake of Constance) and take a ferry from Uberlingen to Insel Mainau ... this is a great island for kids with a lot of history and lots for all ... it has beautiful flowers and plants from all over the world, it has a pretty castle, lots of places to eat, animals, a butterfly pavillion, and so much more that is educational, beautiful and fun. You wouldn't regret this for your kids.

This is a list of things my son (then 6) enjoyed in these places:
(forgive me if I misspell any of these)
Munich & Bavaria:
1. Running through the grass and taking a self-propelled (by you) boat ride in the Englischer Gardens
2. The Glockenspiel (Marienplatz), which I believe does its dance at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
3. The top of the Dome (near Marienplatz)(Yes, there is an elevator)
4. The beer garden at the Lowenbrau Brewery (big tables to eat and drink, and a very nice playground for the kids, with slides and swings, etc.)(fun for parents too!).
5. The beer garden at the Hofbrauhaus.
6. The carriage & horse ride up to Neuschwanstein castle (the castle itself didn't interest him much).

Salzburg:
1. The local park on the Mirabelle Gardens side of the river -- a short ride on the bus, there's a public pool, which is more like a country club, with 4 pools (one designed for toddlers and under gives and a lap pool for small but older kids), a beer garden, a sandbox and a playground (I think they also had tennis courts). Really cheap, and they provide towels (my husband LOVED this place).
2. The Sound of Music Tour (lots of walking around in expansive grounds, but my son really liked the summer luge you ride on that is included in the price).
3. The Lion Fountain.
4. The funicular up to the top of the castle.
5. The toy store and market square (more toys).
6. The trip to the salt mines in Hallein (where you enter on a mini train, then go down wooden slides).

Have fun!
