Have to agree with the above poster. When we drove up and saw the grounds we couldn't believe that this was where we were staying for such a small amount of money! It's atmosphere plus more atmosphere. It's down the hill from the historic town square and right next to a giant escalator that takes you up to the other end of town. As long as you have the whole day, 1 night is good for Toledo.

While I liked the Cardenal very much, and it does have the advantage of on-site parking which was free when we were there, I think that I would stay in the old city itself the next time. I thought it was rather a long walk to most of the main sights, even from the top of the escalator. Or perhaps I thought this because we were perpetually a bit lost! And while the restaurant at the Cardenal is good, I would like to be closer to a more lively area at night..
I have not investigated so I don't know the lodging options at the top of the city, but it might be worth a look...

Cardenal is very nice, but the location is distant from the center of town for a visit of only one night. Because there is so much to see in Toledo, and thus your time will be spent out of your hotel, I recommend a more central location at half the price.
I like the Hostal Centro for ideal location and price. Double rooms start at 45 Euros. It is clean, comfortable and ideally situated.

Nuevo Labrador is in a good location and doubles start at 42 Euros

We have stayed twice at Hostal Santo Tome, its in a great position in the old town, easy walking everywhere, very friendly owners and they also have underground parking which is just a few minutes away from the hotel. Check it out www.hostalsantotome-toledo.com/
