The fraise de bois. You can get really good chocolate, raspberry, even pear ice cream in the U.S., but I have only ever seen the fraise de bois (wild strawberry) in France, and it is good!

Does anyone know if the ice cream sold at the Louvre is Berthillon? Whatever brand it is; it's the best I've had. We went back five days in a row...for the ice cream (and the art).

Chocolat noir!!! Deep, rich and sinfully delicious. Cost? Last October it was 13F for 1 boule, 26F(?) for 2.

FYI, a restaurant called Cafe Pont l'Alma on Avenue Rapp serves Berthillon ice cream, as well. Since I was there, I decided to try the rum raisin. yech! The rum certainly was strong--too strong! But the fraise was lovely and the flavor exploded in my mouth.

Wild Strawberry!! It tastes as though the strawberries were crushed and frozen before your eyes!

As a close second, the pear is also divine.

jim: The Magnums never compare to Berthillon's ice creams! Never!
But that's a question of taste of course. I am not all that crazy about the Magnums, no matter which flavour, w/wo almonds. But the fact there is a lot of publicity made for them and you can definitely get them just everywhere (I even saw them in Thailand) makes people think it's the best. Again, a matter of taste.

I had a double - wild strawberry was fabulous, and the peach with mint leaves was so refreshing on a hot day. Nothing to compare it to here. My mother-in-law and daughter swear by the dark chocolate...weeks later they are still talking about it!

I was going to say peach, but then I noticed C/cdf is having chocolate. Pardon, madam, but are you into sharing?

Loved the Berthillon caramel...but even the vanilla was delicious. Also, the sorbets...especially pear. Sigh.

I must admit I haven't met a Bertillon flavor that I haven't enjoyed. However, my all-time favorite is pomme verte - just like tart, crisp Granny Smith apples.
