What does Top/topper/top it mean?

Recently I've noticed threads being "topped": what does this mean? If its a way of getting interesting threads back into play, how do you do it? Does anybody else know how to find 'lost' threads: I can't be here every day and I feel like I've missed an episode of my favourite soap opera: whatever happened to that nice woman whose husband turned their proposed trip to Italy with kids into a misery by announcing their impending divorce just before they left? What about the people who wanted to bring a disabled friend and wanted advice? There should be a special follow-up session for those of us who are sporadic Fodor junkies and can't get a fix everyday!

I've said it before and I will say it again. If you are poing to go off traveling willy nilly and not stay glued to this board like you should, you are going to miss out. If you do insist on going away and sightseeing, and eating at restaurants in Paris and taking trains from Frankfurt and all that, then at least have the decency to check in. I mean, what are internet cafes for, after all? Get your priorities right. The Eiffel Tower has been there for a while, Pompeii a little longer, but interesting threads come and go and if you miss out, then ppeople like myself who choose to spend 6 hours a day at this board then have to top messages for you. And you know that the search Engine takes a little bit longer to retrieve important information than it took to build Rome.

I mean next, you 'll be asking what happened to dfgh and if it ever got to rtuys.

If you cannot commit and be prepared to be here every day and put in the time then you should be forced to wear white shoes, shorts and a fanny pack and have your blue fodorite ribbon taken away.

Sheesh!

And now, LJ, on the serious side. When you post a reply to a message it moves it to the top of the list. If someone sees a message that he or she feels is getting too far down the list and it deserves our attention, they simply post a reply and say Top or Topping. To find lost threads, use the search function at the top of the page. Type in some words from the thread, then wait, maybe as much as five minutes. A list of threads containing those words will pop up on the left. Then just choose the one you want. Good hunting!

"Topped" means that Rex is back from his trip to Italy and now has 24/7 to devote to this forum rather than the mere 12/7 whilst he was away.

So nice to see pleasant, fun replies. When I first came on the board and asked the same question I was accused of being a "troll," whatever that means, and was basically told to shut up. True Blue says it all well tongue in cheek! And I agree, what did happen to that gal with the looming divorce?

I think that the divorce story from Nancy was posted under the title "Long Anticipated Trip". I think that she has posted one or more updates, including something about a bottle of champagne under Coals to Newcastle.

The story that ought to be updated is the one about the Duke victory in basketball, and the trip to Paris.
Depends on where you are. In Rome, to "top it" means to put some of that deliciously sweet & creamy panna on top of your scoops of gelato. :~)
