It helps a lot. I will have to think a bit where we intend to be the rest of the time and of course what accommodation I find, if Truro does not offer much of that. in general my plan is to be 11-12 nights in England. We haven't bought the air tickets yet so that's still open. Although we often stay sometime in the same place and do day trips, we've decided to cover more area this time and visit Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall staying something like 3 days in each area in a place that would easily allow us day trips. So I'm now trying to think which places would serve that purpose.

1. Mousehole; my mum's favourite and she passed away last year so this is a must.>

If you have not read Paul theroux's book about walking the coast of Britain do so - at least the Cornwall parts where he highlights Mousehole!

Geevor is exactly what I am looking for and I assume I could combine it with Mousehole and a trip around the coast. I googled it but I would have called it south west coast - south of St Ives Have I found the right place??>>

sorry, nina, i missed this bit of your post. locals tend to call everything north of Land's End the north coast, and everything to the east, the south coast, but I see what you mean. anyway, you've clearly found the right place.

there's an excellent pub near there called the Gurnard's Head; terrific if slightly trendy food but very popular so if you fancy a meal or even staying there, you'd need to book.

r1955 - if this is to be more of a flying visit than an in-depth stay, then I think that Truro would be a better bet than Falmouth as you might get frustrated going backwards and forwards up and down the same stretch of road, but it would be a nice place to visit for a day, particularly if you combined it with a boat trip over to st Mawes. And if you just fancied staying put for a few days and not going anywhere much, then it would be ideal - it really depends what you want to do!

Pal -I feel that I'm being very insensitive here as I can't find the post where your comment about Mousehole originates. can you elucidate?
