I do not understand the fascination for grey (North American) squirrels from Europeans, since we have more than enough over here. In fact the grey squirrel is squeezing out the native red squirels and the Isle of Wight has the only colony of red squirrels left in the UK. There was a scare on the island recently because grey squirels had been spotted and if that happens it curtains for the red squirrel - they will become extinct.

Re what leaves natives unmoved

I have lived in Wincheter for 32 years but have only managed to see Jane Austen's grave recently. There is also King Arthur's Roundtable ( only one of many of Winchester's attractions) which I have not managed to see because it always seems to be crowded out by tourists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm another San Franciscan. Many days I take the Golden Gate Bridge for granted, but sometimes I stop and realize its beauty. Another thing that's fascinating for tourists that I take for granted are the cable cars. Can't understand why people jostle to stand on the very edge of the platform risking their lives.

Sort of a reverse answer: at nite when I look from my window I see the Triboro bridge over the East River.. some nites the water is absolutely still and the bridge and it's lights are reflected. some nites, a huge orange, full moon rises behind the bridge. I've been looking at this for 30 years and never take it for granted. I doubt few tourists to NYC ever see this view the way I do. (As I've always said... New York is a great place to live but I wouldn't want to visit. - -

We were visitng friends who live in Grand Cayman. They live in a condo on the beach, and when you come down for breakfast, the first thing you see is the amazing blue-green water and the white sand. It is absolutely gorgeous. One morning, as i was oohing and ahhing over the veiw for the umpteenth time, I said, "You must feel so fortunate to live in the midst of such beauty." 'Oh," said my friend. "I hardly notice it any more. I just go about my business."
