kybourbon: Is it still necessary to include your hotel Fax # when you fax the Vatican for their guided tour for the museum? I am reading different posts that some are receiving confirmation of their reservation a month or more prior to leaving the states. When I went last Mar. I was told to include my hotel Fax # and I wouldn't receive confirmation until a couple of days prior to my reservation. I have friends that are leaving in a couple of weeks and will be in Rome in about 3 weeks. They have faxed the Vatican but did not put their hotel fax in the fax to the Vatican.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I would refax, explaining that you forgot the hotel fax number.

For everyone intending to visit multiple museums, you might consider the RomaPass (20E) or the newer Roma & Piu (25E). The pass includes bus/metro (3 days) and free admission to the first two museums with discounts at others and on the hop on and off bus. The Roma & Piu includes the train from the airport (FCO) and you can purchase at the airport. Since the train into the city is 11E, Borghese is 8.5E + 2E reservation fee, Coloseum/Palantino combo ticket is 9E, you can see you've already saved money.

The problem with the pass is scheduling. Your free admission is only to the first two places you decide to visit and Borghese still requires reservation. If you are willing to plan your itinerary a bit, this pass easily pays for itself. It does not include the Vatican. This link explains the Roma Pass.

This link explains the newer pass (both still available)and is a good booking web site that doesn't charge high fees as many of the tour companies booking services.

For those confused about the location of the Sistine Chapel and entrances to the Vatican Museum in relation to St. Peter's or entrance to Scavi tour, spend some time looking at this web site. If you click on Vatican City, you can see the chapel is #9 and the entrance is #22. A long walk from the piazza where you enter St. Peter's.

The Roma and Piu Pass is no longer covering the Leonardo Express as was listed on the web page last year.

The Vatican has extended their hours for 2008 with entrance from 8:30-4:00(last entrance) and exit by 6:00 (including Saturdays). They are no longer changing times for winter/summer. The new hours are here:

I am curious as to whether anyone has taken one of the Context Arte Vatican PRIVATE tours (rather than the pre-scheduled) and whether you were able to do it if you were less than 6 people
