Enough of the shameless plugging of this book! I'm wondering if the author gives a discount in exchange for posting praises like this one?

whoever you are xxx you must explain why every time someone raves about this travel book you get so upset, is it something personl or what?. I have met Dario and he is such a kind person, have you had any bad experiences with him in the past? just curious

I just finished reading it this morning. I wouldn't call it a great book - it needs a good edit - but it is a highly engaging narrative, with detailed and heartfelt descriptions of the Chianti countryside, amusing anecdotes about some of Dario's customers, and one of the best descriptions of the Palio and the traditions behind it that I have ever read.

Dear Stcirq, just a curiosity how did you pay for the book?, is it true that the author sends it and them once received you send him a check?, if so it seems that Dario really trusts people!

Curious:

I ordered it from a website, the address of which I got here on Fodor's (sorry, I've lost it now), and paid with an Amex card. It arrived in less than 2 weeks.

True--Dario is trusting. I finished it about 2 weeks ago and found it unpolished but very engaging. His passion for the region and for the Palio is evident. If you enjoy Tuscany you will like the book.
