We've all heard the horror stories, how many have NEVER lost any checked luggage?

Never permanently lost but last time I came to Cincinnati from Edinburgh via London I actually had my case in my hand but was told to put it on another belt which would transport it to baggage reclaim for me. It didn't arrive for another 21 hours. Still dont know where it went.

Close call last October - on the Toronto-Edmonton (final) leg of our Portugal trip, we were "bumped" twice - I was actually a bit relieved when our luggage wasn't on the carousel, as it meant I could go right to bed when I got home rather than stay up unpacking. All 3 bags arrived safely within 18 hours. I hope that's as close as we ever come to actual *lost* luggage.
ja

Hi
At least 75 flights nothing ever lost or misplaced (that includes 3 trips to Europe and one to Australia). An airport hotel was late in getting the luggage, thanks to the then Republic Airways they flew it from Detroit to Chicago to a Northwest to send it to Miami to get it to us on our Honeymoon before our Cruise ship left. Best airlines there ever was!!!

Be sure to put your ID on and IN your baggage, or it could end up at the Unclaimed Baggage Center emporium in Alabama:

http://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/coinfo/home.asp

I've never lost luggage, but once my bag came out covered with hydrolic fluid.

Ugh!

To top it off, I fought with the airline for weeks to get them to buy me a new bag. They only wanted to pay me 60% of the bag's value, as it was three year's old. Finally they paid for a new, comprable bag.

Never myself. My husband has had his luggage arrive late on business travel in the Canadian north when he has had to take several airlines including smaller ones that are frieght/passenger flights, but only once on a major carrier. As a result of his experience, we both take along clean underwear in our carry on. Most carriers provide you with a little toiletries bag if your luggage is late.

Our friends recently flew to NZ and their luggage did not come off one plane (in LA) in time for them to board the overseas flight. However, their luggage still beat them to their destination, as it was sent on an alternate route!

MANY years (read;decades) ago, even before we were married and I was a nubile traveller, my now husband and I went to Cancun, dead of winter. We left sub-freezing temps with me in wool and boots to arrive in the tropical clime. I had packed ALL my clothes but one dress in my bag. My fiance had the forethought to grab a swimsuit of mine last minute and throw it into his carry-on. When we arrived HIS bag made it, but not mine. I was left with a long wool skirt, sweater, knee-hi boots, a dressy dress and a swimsuit.

Next day we went out for shorts, t-shirt and shoes for me, with me having to decide to hit the market either in boots and this dress, or just go for the casual and wear the swimsuit. I felt so stupid in the dress I went for the latter. (At least it was a 1-piece). Mistake! The men of Mexico I soon discovered had no reserve when it came to cat-calls and pinching, even with my fiance standing right there! It was practically traumatic.

My luggage arrived 2 days later. I never wanted to wear that swimsuit again! Lesson learned; ALWAYS pack some back-up clothes in your carry-on!

Last year, flew to Nice, with luggage not arriving for three days!! I always pack our bags dividing our clothes between our two bags, but neither showed up! I did back a change a clothing in our carryon bag. Actually, to find a highlight from the experience, we learned the hard way to travel light. I left one bag at the hotel to be picked up on our return. They were kind enough to lock it up for us. This year when we travel, one bag and a carry on. Those trains are so much easier with little luggage!!

Never completely lost. Once 30 years ago a bag was completely destroyed; sliced in half!! It was the last time I ever packed anything of any value in a checked suitcase. Once my husband's bag didn't show up at La Guardia from California. They found it and delivered it to us the next day after I did a great deal of nagging. Nagging can be beneficial with airlines who are already over-loaded with problems. The squeeky wheel does get the grease.

Feel very nervous saying this, as I'm flying to Washington DC on Monday, with checked baggage, but...

I've never had anything lost or even temporarily misplaced, in dozens of trips with checked baggage.

Better touch wood for next week now!

Not yet (touch wood) but then I've only once made it to the gate with minutes to spare (which means my bag had to be hustled on pretty fast, too.) I've been told checking in with at least an hour to go is the best way to ensure checked bag makes it on board properly.
