We've all heard the horror stories, how many have NEVER lost any checked luggage?

I haven't.

lucky Apr 10th, 2002 04:36 AM

Have had it missing for 24 hrs., but never completely lost.

lucky2 Apr 10th, 2002 04:39 AM

Never had it lost either.

Jess Apr 10th, 2002 04:41 AM

The airline has never lost my luggage, though some idiot grabbed my bag and left without checking the tag, only to discover it wasn't his bag when he got home. Oops!

elaine Apr 10th, 2002 04:42 AM

not permanently lost, just "misplaced"<BR>twice, both domestic flights involving no changes or stops

AH Apr 10th, 2002 04:49 AM

NEVER had luggage lost or misplaced. Am I tempting fate by admitting that??

Jim Apr 10th, 2002 04:51 AM

yawn ... boring ... trolling

JOdy Apr 10th, 2002 05:00 AM

Gone to Europe at least one a year for 35 years, my hubby traveled on business at least once a week for 30 years and have never had a bag lost , misplaced or late! KNOCK WOOD!!

xxx Apr 10th, 2002 05:03 AM

Me neither. BTW, Jim, why don't you come up with something brilliant if you're so smart?

Book Chick Apr 10th, 2002 05:24 AM

Been traveling since I was 14; nothing ever permanently lost; a couple of pieces of luggage(each on separate trips) were delayed about 24 hours. Different airlines, too, now that I think of it.<BR><BR>BC

Mel Apr 10th, 2002 05:39 AM

Many, many trips and have only had it lost once--for six days going over and they lost it again for 4 days on the return. A really awful experience at the time, but the amount of travel I do makes the odds of it happening slim, so I'm over it.

Judy Apr 10th, 2002 05:42 AM

We also travel a lot, many instances of delayed luggage, several 24 hrs., once a real inconvenience, delayed a two week road trip but never totally lost. Judy

After several flights & always carrying extras in my carry-on, I have never lost a piece of luggage! (hope this doesn't jinx me)

kate Apr 10th, 2002 06:13 AM

Lots of damaged luggage, but it has never been lost.although I have heard about luggage that takes seperate holidays from its owner:)

During a college, I did a semester abroard in France (Normandy)and we took an ocean liner over and my luggage did not make it off. Basically all my clothes (read new clothes!) except what was on my back! Anyway filed a claim with the insurance company and got some money but hardly enough to replace a college girl's wardrobe....upon return to the States, luggage arrived in Paris, friend picked it up and sent it to me. So I haven't lost my luggage but have had to wait quite a while to get it!

In 25 years of travelling, never lost a bag, but had 2 near misses:<BR>- in Shanghai, travelling alone for a week: I bought new jeans, shirts, etc.. In hindsight very glad it happened because it was an incentive to shop at local clothing stores. Some of the stuff I still wear and cherish. Got my suitcase back the night before I flew back to the States.<BR>- in Europe, travelling with the family for 3 weeks: my suitcase didn't arrive (the other 4 did), so I had to shop again. Meanwhile the airline (Martinair) did everything possible to trace it, but no luck. I will never blush again as much as the day we got home and we found my suitcase still standing in our bedroom. It had never left... I hope the airline was pleased to get a letter of apology from a customer for a change.

Wow, "absent," you're brave to admit that one!<BR><BR>To avoid being left high and dry, if you have traveling companions, mix the clothes among the suitcases, so if one goes astray nobody is left entirely without. <BR><BR>When I travel with my kids, we each put one outfit in each other's suitcases, just in case. I've had suitcases take different trips than me several times!

kc Apr 10th, 2002 07:43 AM

LOL-"absent" that is funny!!<BR>At least you didn't leave the kids:)

jpm Apr 10th, 2002 07:48 AM

I travel frequently and have never had luggage lost - the worse was it was delayed 24 hours. And everytime it was due to a flight delay, change in flights, something of that nature.<BR><BR>The worse that happened was flying back from Scotland on Sept. 10 of last year. Got stuck in Philadelphia over night, flew to Pittsburg early the next morning, was sitting at the end of the runway ready to take-off when we were called back to the gate.<BR><BR>Ended up spending 2 nights in Pittsburg before being able to get a rental car and driving home. My luggage showed up the next day. So, I was in the same clothes from early monday morning to late thursday night. But all in all, I consider myself fortunate that this was the worse I had to suffer.

KC: Leaving the kids.. you're kidding! It's because I constantly kept counting th&eacute;m that I lost track of the suitcases!!<BR>You know, after having been through an emergency landing in Guantanamo Bay (on a Cessna from Haiti), two missed landings in a blizzard in Bangor (on a 747 from Brussels to JFK), some scary DC3 trips in the Caribbean, a simulated belly landing in Miami (on a BWIA 727) I sort of consider the fact that your luggage arrives a bonus. So far, so good!
