I was there in March. I liked it. The rooms are kinda small, (of course it's Europe,) but the location is great. It is in Leidseplein. If you are in Dam Square or the RLD at night, the trams stop at 12 midnight. To take a taxi to the hotel is about $10.

Did you get your fare on eurovactions.com ?

Michele mentioned the fare is thru the web www.go-today.com; they offer some unbelievable deals for off-season. I've seen a couple of favorable remarks in this forum regarding dealing with them. We went to Amsterdam via Skyauction.com (which is way overpriced these days) and were hoteled in the Leidseplein area - it was great! Lots of cafes and a cinema, tram lines, tourist office window at the square. A few blocks' walk to the Rjkesmuseum and Van Gogh musem, about 1-2 blocks from the Vondelpark. Overall, a much more pleasant area than staying near Dam Square.

Oh, I forgot to mention that we were there in March 2000 - it was chilly for us Floridians, in the 30-40f.. I think the thermometer saw 50* one time. We bought knits caps and that helped keep body-heat in better. I always wear cuddle-duds under clothes to keep warm and lessen need for heavier layers. We had a wonderful time in spite of the chill. The only downer to going in February is there won't be any flowers, I don't think.

http://www.littlehousefashions.com/l...ddudwarun.html - I spelled the brand-name wrong, it is Cuddl Duds. I can't vouch for the site I've mentioned, just that you can see what the warmwear looks like. I saw it on the J C Penney website, too. Very lightweight but warm 'long underwear' that you wear under your clothes to retain body heat. Highly recommended for chilly weather.
