West Zurich

I was wondering if anyone could comment on the West Zurich area, more specifically its safety. I have heard that it is industrial and hip, but I am wondering about the level of safety, as a couple of hotels I am thinking of staying in are situated there. What about proximity to sights?

Hi Joe,
I am assuming you are talking about the area surrounding Escher-Wyss-Platz and Hardturm.

I have walked around these areas many times in the evening and never once felt insecure.

There are many bars and new restaurants in this area. It is accessible to the main part of the city by many trams and busses.
Zurich is very small and easy to maneuver.

I would stay in this area at one of those newer hotels before i would stay in the Niederdorf and have to suffer the loud clubs and worn rooms.

Thanks very much. I was considering either the ETAP West Zurich or the IBIS West Zurich and am not exactly sure if these fall in the region that you addressed. I just thought that I should clarify. Thank you for your help.

Joe, i just looked up the location for both those hotels.

Its not the most beautiful area, but you would be saving quite a bit of money staying there.

You do have access to the 4 & 13 tram as well as bus lines. You are not far from Bahnhofstrasse (10 minutes). And I would not worry about safety.

Just wanted to second Queenie on this. I wouldn't worry about safety in that area.
