Weekend trips from Heidelberg--any suggestions
I just recently started working in Heidelberg. This is my first extended period of time in Europe and I would like to take this opportunity to see some of Europe. Thanks to the generous holiday schedule here, I have many three day weekends available for visiting nearby places. Obvious places to go would be Munich, Berlin, the Black Forest or even Prague, Paris or Amsterdam. Obviously, this is not complete list. I would appreciate any other suggestions or any comments about the areas I listed above. Thanks.

It will depend upon your tastes, howver allow me to suggest the following:
1. Drive down the Mosel River from Koblenz to Trier. Trier is the oldest city in Germany and has some outstanding Roman sites. The trip down the Mosel will take you through German wine country. Stop at the Burg Eltz a great medievil castle.
2. Romantic Road form Rothenberg ob der Tauber, Augsburg, Munich to Fussen.
3. Up the Rhine to Cologne then over to Belgium for great food and even better beer. Try Brugges, the Venice of the North and Liege.
4. Salzburg, about 90 minutes from Munich. A geat city!
5. Try the Alsace Region of France and then to Nancy and Freiburg.
6. Get on a train and go!
