Weekend hotels or b7b Dublin
We have a chance to go to Dublin for the next weekend. Ususally we rent a car, but this time I am taking my daughter and want to use public transportation. I need to know sites or info. about b&b type budget places to stay that will be easy access from the airport. Also what part of town is the best to get around. Thanks, Janice

Hi Janice, I ahve not been, but got very good reports on a B&B in Dublin. It is called O'Neill's Victorian Bub and Townhouse : www.oneillsdublin.com. I don't know how old your daughter is, but when I told my daughter, we were staying over a pub, she thought it was cool. It is very centrally located and very reasonable IMO, for a Dublin.. 37 punts per person, per night. Check out the web site, you may like it! Judy

Janice,
Anywhere in and around Temple Bar is very central and loud at weekends so be warned. However Dublin is quite small and while the public transport is not always or ever on time it does run so anywhere outside the city centre eg Drumcondra enroute from the airport might be a good place to stay - do a search on this site and you should find some recommendations. Alternatively anywhere on the DART (local train) line is also worth looking at.

Hope this helps and for details on public transport check out www.cie.ie and the Dublin Bus site linked through CIE and the DART site via CIE also. Finally check out www.ireland.travel.ie

Cathy

Thanks Cathy for reminding me about the noise factor. I guess I will be sure to bring my white noise machine. Are you familiar with O'Neills? It sounds nice, and my husband always wanted to stay over a PUB. As soon as I showed him the web site he was all enthused. It must be a guy and his pub thing. Judy

At Easter we stayed at a B&B about five minutes on a bus from the city centre (Upper Drumcondra Road). It was very nice and clean. It was called the ABC Guesthouse, I found it on a search on the web.

However there are a lot of B&Bs closer to town.

There was a bus stop outside, and one across the road towards town, buses came very regularly, I don't think we had to wait longer than five minutes. We got a three day pass (I think a Rambler or something like that) which you can buy inside the airport building, diagonally opposite the tourist information. It saves having to have change for the buses, you just validate it when you get on the bus. It works on all buses (I'm not sure about the airport bus).

There were a lot of B&Bs in the same area on this road. We got a bus from the airport (about ten minutes). There are direct buses to town from the airport. The drivers are all very helpful, when we were in town we asked a driver where the bus left from - he told us (a couple of blocks away), then picked us up down the road as the bus was leaving (this was before the bus stop). A driver at the airport told us where to get tickets, found us the right bus stop and then flagged down a bus for us so we got on the right one. This was amazing for me, I'm used to London!

There was a great pub down the road from the B&B, if you stay in this area let me know and I will give you directions.

Anyway Dublin is a great city. Have fun.

Hi: I hope you enjoy your Irish holiday as much as we did 3 years ago. We are on a fairly limited budget, so we booked a B&B quite near the airport. It was in a place called Sutton, and was run by some people called Sutton. It was a lovely place, and the owners were friendly and helpful, and served a lovely breakfast, with choices. We walked over to the Dart station, and took the train into the center of Dublin. It was easy, no traffic, frequent trains, and no parking to worry about. We had rented a car at the airport, and left the next day to drive west. Again, no traffic worries, as there is a ring road easily accessible from Sutton. We also had a lovely walk out on the peninsula, near to Sutton, and across the bay from Dublin. This was a great way to get the kinks out after the long flight from Canada. the B&B was only around 17 irish pounds per person, with ensuite bath and breakfast. Our itinerary was planned that we just had the first night in the Dublin area, but returned at the end of our tour for another day of sightseeing in Dublin. Same B&B, easy to return car at airport! We tried to do too much in a week, so be warned, either plan less, or stay longer. I vote for the latter. Have a grand trip.
