Week-end in Chambery?
We're thinking of doing a long week-end in September in Chambery. We can catch a TGV from Brussels to Lyon, then change to local train (on the way back, we change in Valence). We'd like to have a relaxing week-end in an attractive town, no driving, no special plans, just walking around, enjoying some good meals, maybe a little shopping. We're taking the spaniel with us, as usual, so would also like to find a nice park or two. Hotel already picked.
Anyone been there recently? FYI, are there views of the Alps from Chambery? Your opinions and restaurant recs appreciated!

Hey,
I homebased in Chambéry during the '92 Olympics. During the wintertime it's charming, with the typical lights and lovely shopfronts. Summertime would mean hikes/of course you can tour the castle.
Haven't been there recently, but it's a sleepy little place only brought to life by ski season, nice Savoyarde atmosphere throughout -- good for putzing around for a weekend.
My most recent slow weekend was in Tournus, which was great for special meals and touring wine villages (on train). Also doable from Lyon . . .
