wedding dresses in Spain
We are going to spain and Italy this summer on a family excurion and thought we might look for some weddign gowns and/or fabric in spain and Italy. My prefernce is to make it or buy it enitirely of lace and since those countries produce the most gorgeous styles we thought it would be a good idea. Does ANYONE on this site have any suggestions
on where I might be able to find these items?? thanks!!

In Spain, the wedding gowns at "Pro Novia", with branches all over, quite nice. In Madrid, there are two upscale stores on fashionable Velazquez street which design for/sell wedding dresses to Madrid's elite. You might want to look at "Mundo Novias" at #58 or "Tilburi" at #39- also "Galatti Novias" on nearby Goya, number 71.

When we were in Madrid two years ago, my daughters loved the wedding dresses they saw in Madrid. We passed a number of bridal shops and the dresses were all gorgeous. The thing that impressed us was that the dresses we saw were so classic, elegant, and modest. I've thought about going back there when the time comes that we need to buy one.

Diana- I've been all over Europe and never saw more beautiful wedding dresses than in Spain. We were there a couple of years ago and I could not believe the quality and elegance. The best shops I noticed were in Seville. Can't remember the street but it is in the pedestrian shopping area. Sorry I can't recommend a store but I was amazed at the beautiful gown. If I buy one, I've dreamed about getting one there!

Diana,
Just like to second Deena's and Kathy's comments about the classic timelessness of Spanish gowns; they're really so elegant. And in Seville, if memory serves, the area around pedestrian Sierpes, Tetuan and Cuna streets near the Plaza del Salvador (is that somewhat correct, Pedro?) has lots of lovely bridal shops to choose from; there's one street in the area that has bridal shop after bridal shop-I was amazed at the selection, and don't forget the beautiful lace "mantillas" (headdress) that Sevilla is so famous for (the genuine handmade in Sevilla article is quite expensive but really gorgeous lace). And I forgot to mention that in Madrid there's a branch of the "Pro Novias" right near the Puerta del Sol on Arenal #3-5.
Happy shopping!

I would be a little suspicious of a lace wedding dress that claims to be hand-made, unless it's extremely expensive. My aunt is a lacemaker, and we always joked that if she would have made my wedding dress, she would have had to start working on it before I was born. She says one inch of lace takes about 1 hour to make.

You can get very nice machine-made lace, but if you're looking for actual handmade lace, it's going to cost you, and it will be difficult to find.

UH!- Now I wish I could go to Sevilla!! My dress is traditional spanish- it's really incredible ( the idea at least) but we don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of $$ either-
Thanks to everyone!
