What are the best websites for making reservations for hotels in Italy?

*Specifically, Rome, Venice, Florence,
All price ranges.

Thanks,
Karen

Karen,

If you do a google search for Rome Hotels, etc. you'll see there are literally hundreds of sites.

I read some of the recommendations here and then looked for the websites of the hotels themselves, contacting them directly. Those sites are a little harder to find among the Rome-Hotels.coms and Hotels-Rome.coms, but I preferred contacting the hotels directly.

If you keyword search here, you'll have hundreds of recommendations to choose from. Check the Rants and Raves too.

And have fun!

I think http://www.venere.it/ is a pretty good site. Also, expedia.com is not bad for Italy and priceline.com seems to do well for Italy-bound travelers as well.

You can also use Italyby.com or ITWG.com. I have used them as well as venere.com and have found their info and usability to be excellent.

Try Hotelclub.net. I have used this site a couple of times and found it to have very good prices and a good selection of hotels to choose from. I actually thought at the time that they had the best prices of most of sites I looked at. Happy hunting!

www.tripadvisor.com is also a good site where you'll also find reviews of the hotels.

Try Italyby.com. I love this site because it gives so much info and so many pictures of the hotels--inside, outside, public rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, you name it, they take pix of it. Some feel that the cancellation policies on some of the hotels are very hotel-friendly and some even require a partial payment but each hotel has its own policy, they vary and some are quite friendly. Just be sure to check them out before booking. Booking is also easy on this site. Sometimes you get same day response and almost always within the following day. I once got a message from the parent company when one of the hotels failed to respond within two days--the company standard that they apparently enforce. I love this site and have booked dozens of rooms through it for myself and others.

I just stumbled onto italyby.com (formerly charmingitaly.com). One of the best sites I have seen. Photos are important to me. This site has a many great photos of each place both inside and outside. Many Italian bedrooms photos look somewhat cold and empty to me, until.... I found photos of Gritti Palace in Venice. Stunning! Not only the bdrm but all. THIS must be the utmost in Venice. I saw it was 5-star, but was afraid to look at the price! I wonder what if any places there offers a look and feel this charming yet is more affordable but still in a reasonably good location? You usually get what you pay for, but... there is always that hidden gem!

Oh, and that hidden gem doesn't have to be quiet this opulent to be oh so charming. I have read many raves about the Hotel Accademia, but I was surprisingly disappointed in the photos.
