Weather Thoughts
We are due to leave for our Switzerland/Italy trip in 3 days!! I have checked a weather site to get an idea of what our weather will be like the first 4 days in Switzerland.....and it's NOT looking good. Most of what we have planned include rides or hikes in mountains for scenery. We will gladly still hike if cloudy or even raining (carefully of course), but excursions we have planned for Mt Titlis and the Schilthorn will be a waste if the weather is overcast, cloudy and raining, right?
How accurate are the forcasts for Switzerland? If it's like here in New York...I don't watch weather predictions- they are usually wrong!
So, if it DOES end up raining for most of the time we are in Switzerland, do you have recommendations for great museums for kids (boys 11 and 13), and we will be based in Bern so not more than a 2 hour train ride, please!

Did you check the 'official' Swiss forecast?

I don't see much rain.
Seeing Thun's castle on a rainy day would be a good idea IMO. And a steamboat trip on Lake Thun would be ok also. Or what about Ballenberg museum in Brienz?

Jenn, I found the weather forecasts to vary wildly in accuracy (even over there, on the nightly news)!
Best to figure out the night before, your next day's activities.
That said, Ingo's referred to forecast-site notes partly to mostly SUNNY for german-speaking Switzerland (your target) through next Tuesday-Wednesday!
Happy Travels!

Also, if truly inclement weather, consider "local", lesser-priced trips up to viewing points by funicular, like the Harderbahn from Interlaken 27 CHF RT for adult, half that for a child OR Meiringen Reichenbach Falls (Of Sherlock Holmes fame) about 13 CHF roundtrip. Spectacular waterfalls make the area wet anyway!
And in Bern, the double level arcaded shops keep any raindrops from hitting one's head anyway!
Lucerne has renowned museums, I'm sure others will respond with particulars.

You can never tell. Also - the weather in the valey may be compleely different from the top of the mountain. We were in Interlaken 3 days before we got one clear enough to ascend the Jungfrau. (It was sunny all 3 days in Interlaken - but the top of the mountain was socked in.)
You will just have to play it as it lays.
