Luzern region has generally good weather May/June, September/October. Obviously somewhat more rain in May and October, but overall pretty nice I think.

The Oberland in May and early June and September and October is just very hard to predict. May can have some stormy days (rain and clouds, quite possibly snow.) Early June can have snow. We've been there on the 10th with snow down as low as Mürren. This year it snowed on the middle two weekends in June in Mürren.

September often nice, but again some stormy days usually, snow not unusual. (In fact snow not terribly unusual at the end of August.) October even more difficult to predict.

If you want (reasonably)predictable weather in the Oberland one really must visit between mid or late June and early or mid August. Any other time the weather is quite unpredictable.

A sample of 'tween season experience at www.twenj.com/swmurrenfall.htm And you'll find a pointer there to a set of pages on the Gimmelwald site that indexes 12 essays on life in the mountains in each month.
Hi Richard. I have been in Switzerland for the last 3 summers. The year I was there the last week in September, the weather was turning and we experienced many days of rain. The time to go in September seems to be in the first two weeks. We were in the Berner Oberland last summer for one week, from the 8th to the 15th of September, and we had 6 out of 7 days that were terrific. Of course, weather predictions are iffy.
Like who would have precited 7 inches of rain for Athens, Ga., in a short period of time, without a hurricane being responsible.
But, my return to Switzerland will always bein early September or late August.
Richard good morning:
Weather is more and more unpredictable. September in general is fine, you must have just picked the bad days.
This July, we had everything from rain and cold to nice and hot.
On the official weather site for Switzerland, you are likely to find some statistical data. At least, I hope you'll find something on the English version.
www.meteoschweiz.ch
If you want info about the Bernese Oberland, there is a direct link for "Gstaad"; it's not too far from the other places in the Bernese Oberland and i'ts my favourite area for skiing and hiking, especially the villages nearby such as Saanenmöser, Schönried, Saanen (nice church and Yehudi Menuhin school), Gsteig.
PS: Lucerne is known in Switzerland as the rainy and foggy corner. This is not joke, it's true.
Enjoy Switzerland
Greetings from Ursula in hot, hot Zurich...

Ursula
tried to write to [email protected], both
times returned to 554 delivery error:
Thanks again, Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..
