weather in venice in February
Considering going with teens next feb 2006, have heard about flooding and lots of rain. How risky is this? Is February the month that it most often happens? I understand there is always a chance but just how risky is it?
Also, if going to rome, venice, florence and short visit to turin for one event of the olympics, what is the best order and approximately how far apart is each?
Thanks

we took our two teenagers to Italy last December for ten days. We started in Rome for 4 days, trained to Florence for 4 and then on to Venice for a day and a half. In florence we did a day with American Express tour to San Giancarolo and the town where they do the horse race in the center, the name escapes me..weather was nice enough Rome was 50-60 Florence ten degrees cooler and Venice ten degrees cooler than that..no crowds to ruin our time, kids lovedlovedloved it food was great,,ironically the only place that we didn't love was Venice..the day and a half was enough,,,we did the jewish quarter etc and then took the boat through a rainstorm to the airport.. the train rides were about an hour and a bit except to venice which was a couple of hours..recommend the small additional expense for first class accommodations,,as far as flooding in Venice,,,wasn't an issue for us but they do have the walkways when it gets up..

I don't think the experience of one traveler last December should be the basis of your planning. Try one of the historical weather web sites.
Keep in mind that even these web sites give averages--so what the weather will be like the exact days you are there could be on either side of those averages.

We took our two teens to Venice in February 2003 as part of a trip that included Rome and Florence as well. The kids loved the trip and we all loved Venice. You can find my trip reports on this site. We take advantage of cheap winter rates and travel to Europe as a family during our kids winter school breaks. We had fine weather in Venice, yes it was chilly (not as chilly as NY where we live) but it was dry - no flooding. Susan
