Weather in August in Norwegian Fjords

Taking a cruise along Fjords in August. What should I expect weather wise. Anyone been this time of year? What clothes are needed during the day. Am on Cunard Caronia rest of the time.

I spent a summer in Norway a few years ago and was surprised at how cold it was (I was in Roros)-- though Norwegians kept apologizing for how unusually cold it was that summer (40s and 50s on some days). Bring pants, long sleaves and a jacket, along with some lighter clothing. Unless there's a heat wave, you probably won't need summer-type clothing.

Enjoy -it's a fantastic country with some of the most incredible scenery.

Roros is not in the fjord area, and is located at relatively high altitude. It is among the coldest Norwegian places during winter.
My experience with the fjord area is that August comes with relatively dry weather, and often sunny. Expect some showers, though. I certainly would bring both my T-shirt and shorts. A thin raincoat/windprotected jacket also, and of course also some thin wool sweather. Be prepared for morning temperatures at 9-15 degrees Celsius, raising to 15-25 degrees during the day. First half of August of is of course more like summer than the last part. Last part might come with fresher and more clear air, though.
Enjoy!

We took the Hurtigruten up the coast from Bergen to Kirkenes in August 1994. Weather was pleasant, cool, sunny. You can see averages on <weatherbase.com>. I doubt if you will want shorts.

Hi

The weather in Norway can vary a lot. Last year in August we had almost a month of great weather here in Stavanger with 20+ (Celsius) more or less every day and I even went swimming in the beginning of September. But I guess you should be prepared for all sorts of weather

I have posted a couple of "travelogues" that you might want to take a look at. I live near Lysefjord and I went walking to two places called Preikestolen and Kjerag. I have posted the travelogues and pictures on my homepage www.gardkarlsen.com. It will give you an idea of what you can look forward to
