"If you don't like a poster's query, ignore it and don't post on that thread.
If you have posted questions and don't like some of the answers you get, ignore them."
Are you kidding??? Self righteous superiority is the fuel of the internet. And it is the balm, when it is well spent on strangers, that keep our irl relationships sane and peaceful.

I should never be cuddled or coddled for my typ0s. Live by the typo, die by the typo.

Not coddling does not have to mean the death penalty, it could mean anything from lashings to being made to read some of the topics here.

I don't think most new users of travel sites search for previous threads. It just seems to happen very rarely, either here or on other fora such as TA. And really, there is no way for a newbie to know that one is "supposed to " look at guides and maps first. younger folks especially see the net as the first, not last, stop.

Good lord, I can't believe this had not occurred to me before (smacks head). Of course, it makes total sense now, jubilada. Maybe I'll try to remember that and be more patient. What I had automatically attributed to laziness is more likely just a generational concept. I would still like to think that my 20-something kids would pick up a book before asking questions, though.
I do still have a problem with "texting" when it's widely used under circumstances (like these posts) where it serves more to confuse than communicate. That definitely is laziness IMO. (Irony intended) Maybe humans are regressing. In a couple more generations, they'll be reduced to grunting and pointing again.

Thanks for starting this thread. I have rarely checked out the Europe board this year - since I, unfortuately, am not going to Europe this year. But I went over to check out that thread and it's absolutely hilarious.
What I don't understand, however, is why people bother responding to this kind of post. Well, except for maybe stating that the trip will be a death march and recommending that the poster read a few guide books before traveling.

It brings out the people in people. There are smart, stupid, intolerant, tight asses, class clowns, bigots, civil rights activists, anarchists, rules mongers, nasty bastards, sweethearts, etc. etc.
And the purpose in life is to complain about what you are not.
