We leave for Italy tomorrow - thanks, everyone!
Our trip to Italy is now 24 hours away. I'm very much in the "what was I thinking??!!!" stage.
Thanks to everyone who provided such terrific answers to all of my questions!

Well, we leave the house in four hours. Everything is in the suitcases. I had hoped that our stuff could fit in four 22" bags, but in the end, we decided on five (one each). You light packers would have been SO PROUD of my own tiny little stack of clothes.....but then when we added my son's pair of size 13 shoes, and my husband's size XXL everything, we just needed more room.
We fly from DFW on AA to Zurich, then on Swiss Air to Rome. Carry on weight limit is only 13 lbs on Swiss Air and our bag that has a change of clothes for everyone weighs about 16 lbs. We may just be shoving a few pairs of pants in the kids' backpacks before we board in Zurich for Rome.
For months I've been telling everyone in the family how shorts have to be knee length...and of course, at about 6 pm last night, my husband starts trying on his shorts and discovers that none of them cover his knees! (We opted for pushing them down on his hips rather than an emergency trip to Old Navy.) I've been planning my wardrobe for months, and he begins to think about it less than 24 hours befor our trip.
Thanks again everyone! I don't know how anyone plans a trip without you!

Hi Missypie,
Maybe you will read this before you leave and it may take a little bit of worry from you.
We took the same connections. AA from DFW to Zurich and then on to Rome. It was a Swiss Air Plane operated by AA. Same as you?
Anyway, at Zurich they didn't weigh any of the carry-on items. The only criteria is that the carry-on item would fit in the wire basket that was at the door. And it was the size of a moderate carry-on.
Of course, once you get to Zurich and on the plane, your clothes only have to make that one destination, so I hope you have no problems at all.
Have a wonderful time! We've been home a week today and miss bella italia already.
Carol
