Watch out Paris!
We're leaving for a 5 day getaway in Paris soon.

Hotel is Hotel Bersoly's. Thanks to fodorites we have great information about Chartres. We have reservations at Tan Dihn [vietnamese-french] and l'Oeillade for dinners. Hubby wants to sit in Cafe Flore where Sarte hung out etc... We're using the Airport Shuttle from CDG. A full report will be posted upon our reluctant return

Note: I can't believe it, but our Air France flight doesn't seem to serve dinner! It leaves at 5:45pm ... what a gyp.

My apologies for offending you Martha and any others... if fact I posted prematurely... who knows... the derivation might have occurred to me if I had reread my full post. I'm sure there are as many words that we use unthinkingly that have incorrect orgins as there are people on this boards willing to let you know!
Thanks for the bet Brain-in-Atlanta. I sure hope you win. Air France's food is usually among the best of the plastic food purveyors.

I, too, would bet that dinner and breakfast will be served on your Air France flight. When we checked into the airport, I asked one of the attendants where the best place would be for dinner and he said, "On the plane!" It was excellent. They also offer splits of Champagne, along with the other complimentary beverages, at no charge.

the air france flight i took had great food! dinner and breakfast. we also took the shuttle service-the driver was late and traffic was bad-2 hours later we were at the hotel. for the return we took the air france bus from etoile-the arc de triomphe. they have schedules on the bus. one way from etoile to cdg was 60 ff per person.weather was 40-52-- only 1 day of bad rain which we spent in the louvre. have a great trip!!

That's all right Martha... you were right even in you tongue-in-cheek.
Any last minute advice before we launch ourselves into the arms of Air France?
BTW the info about meals was from travelocity ...5pm seems to be the break point... before dinner, after fuggedaboudit. I will report!

BTW, there is an interesting article in the Food section of the Washington Post about the trend of travelers who are choosing to bring their own meals aboard. www.washingtonpost.com, then click on Style, then Food.

Well Air France has cancelled the 5:45pm flight and put us on the 8:40pm one... something about a strike...methinks it's something about underbooking...

Since I'll be around for a bit more... where is the best central place to buy a museum pass?

Boy am I jealous, even though I just returned in November. We took the 11pm flight, JFK/NY to Paris and we got dinner and breakfast. Wasn't bad either. If you are on the new 777, be prepared for serious cramping. These planes were built by and for midgets. The French Tourist Authority Office on the Champs Elysees sells the museum pass, as well as any of the sites that take it. We bought ours at the Pantheon, no line, no muss, no fuss.

Greetings -

I like buying museum and metro pass at the airport. One stop, one shop. Whip out the credit card and it's done. I don't remember but I think it might cost a little more. I pay extra for convenience after a long flight!

Have a great time and if you want some killer "entrecote", try Relaise de Venise at the outskirts of town near the Concord Lafayette hotel. Metro stop is Porte Maillot. This place is excellent and very lively. They pack the tables so tight people usually have to get up so you can be seated.

Dinner will set you back about $90US for 2 depending on wine. 80% of the people there will be ordering the same thing.

We loved it so much we ate there 3 times on our trip in March. It is not unusual for the place to have a line waiting to be seated. Yummmm!
<BR

Museum passes are available at all the places included on the pass, so it's easy to just pick one up the first place you go (other than the Louvre or Musee d'Orsay where the lines are always long). They're also available at most metro stations (those where two or more lines intersect). We bought ours at a metro station, only to discover when returning to the hotel that they were available at the front desk for the same price. So, check there first.
