Wash and Fold in Berlin?
The people who manage the apartments where I'm staying (it's near the Brandenburg Gate) say the nearest laundromat is 3 km away!
And they don't think there's such service where they wash and fold for you instead of you spending hours at the laundromat.
Anyone have any luck?

hi, scrb,
It is possible that there are no service washes or launderettes in the vicinity of your apatment, as it is so central, but unlikely. I googled the obvious things, but no luck; also there is a ref. on google to "time out in berlin mentions no lauderettes" [and no internet cafees either for that matter!!!
However, you could go on google maps and put in the address of your apartment, and see what comes up for laundrettes [though there does appear to be a pop group of that name which is confusing!]
you could also e-mail the tourist board office and ask them!
if you excuse my asking, are you and the apartment mangers speaknig teh same language?
regards, ann

There is a drop-off location for shirts around the corner of Brandenburg Gate at Wilhelmstr. 68
They only wash and iron shirts but finding a dry cleaner where you can drop your stuff off in the morning and pick it up next day or in the evening is no major problem in Berlin.
If you will have to commute by subway or else to your workplace you will find them near major transfer points, sometimes also in the subway stations.
These places are more common than real Laundromats where you sit and wait.
Maybe your apartment manager will understand better what you need when you ask him for a "Chemische Reinigung" ;-)

When we stayed at the Westin Grand, also near the Brandenburg Gate, we asked for a laundromat, and the nearest one was indeed about 3 km away. I can't give the exact address, but I think it's very near the Circus hostel on Rosa-Luxembourgstrasse.
I'd redirect your inquiry and accept you will likely be traveling to a laundromat, and look for the one that is easiest to access by public transit. The one we visited involved the U-Bahn plus a tram.

Here is a chain of Berlin laundromats:

I think that we actually went to Torstrasse 109, which is near one of the Circus Hostel locations but not the Rosa-Luxembourgstrasse location.
Also, because I'm researching biking in various cities, I came across this link. If you go to the Fat Tire Bike Tour office, you can use the Internet, do your laundry, go on a bike tour, whatever:

That's funny I just took a tour with them yesterday.
It's a crowded store though, right under the TV tower. They sell T-shirts and drinks but I didn't see where they would have laundry facilities.
I think if the other chain lets you leave clothes with them, they would be worth seeking out.

How did you enjoy the bike tour?
I think this might be the service you are seeking, and they have several locations, although none at the Brandenburg Gate:

Why not combine some sightseeing with laundry?
Spend a few hours in Prenzlauer Berg or having dinner on Kollwitzplatz, or whatever, and do your laundry at the same time.
I found this place while looking for a waschsalon near our apartment. I don't think you they have a drop-off service (I could be wrong), but it looks pretty good. (We won't be there till this winter.)
It's a waschsalon/cafe, so you can sit and have coffee while your laundry is being washed:
Holly's Washhouse
Kollwitzstraße 93
7am-11pm daily

Loved it. It drizzled on and off but probably better weather for a bike ride than hot, humid weather.
We stopped at a biergarten in Tiergarten and then took a relaxing ride back.
The comnpany also does tours in Barcelona and Paris. Seems though that Berlin is more friendly to bicycles.

OK, I will check out the Prezlauerberg locations.
Addresses are screwy in Berlin.
You have odd and even numbers on both sides of the street. Apparently, they renumbered the addresses recently.

FYI, the two chains linked in this thread are pure laundromats.
I checked the ones near Torstrasse and Oderberg Strasse in Prenzlauer Berg.
BTW, I also emailed the official tourist bureau and their reply was that they're sorry they can only respond to tourism-related inquiries!
But I did see a "Chemische Reinigung" and there was a gruff old man moving around large amounts of laundry. I tried to look for a price list but he stared at me like get lost.
So oh well, I can look for a lavanderie when I move on to Cannes this Sunday.
