The boats could take a wheelchair, you'd just need to stay on the main deck (as opposed to the roof). The boat trips are especially magical at night. There are many walking tours of Paris, though I am not sure a wheel chair is idea (since there may be occasional steps involved) this could be a really nice way to see Paris. If you are interested in walking tours in english, I could have a look at this week's Pariscope (magazine that tells you what's going on here) and give you the no. to call for more specific info. Let me know....

Hi, Lisa. Sounds like you have a special request. I'd contact the main tourist office on 127 Av. des Champs-Elysees at 011-33-1-47-23-61-72 (phone number). They should be able to give you the low down on the handicap access. I think that most of the major museums are accessed, however. The bateaux mouches are a great way to see Paris if you want to stick with what's directly on the right and left banks. Here are a few numbers you can call for them:
011-33-1-42-25-96-10 or 011-33-1-47-05-50-00. Buy a "carte musees et monuments" at the tourist office or from a Main metro station. You will NOT regret it. It's a pass that gets you in to up to 80 different monuments and msueums throughout paris with very little wait (they have special entrances for pass holders) and they will save you TONS of money.

Hope this helps a bit. I'm going over from Aug 13 - 26...

See ya! Jennifer Stanton

There is a French natl org for disabled access (CNRH
or Comite National Francais de Liaison Pour la
Readaptation des Handicapes) who maintains an
extensive WEB site with very complete information
on all kinds of access issues in Paris, including
complete access directions for every major monument
and site, plus a forum, I think. Its URL is:

whanditel.jouve.fr
(no WWW in front)

I would think you could find Eng-lang walking tours on the
internet easily with a search tool, I know I have mention of
some at home but most would be too hectic, I'd
think, for someone needing to push a wheelchair.
Since you're only there one day, you might take one
of those overview bus sightseeing tours. There are
many run by two companies: Paris Vision (US
phone 800-882-2344) and Cityrama (212-683-8120)
You can ask them about wheelchair access on their
buses. Some other WEB resources are:
www.access-able.com and www.sath.org (Society
for Advancement of Travel).

I found that info on tours at home. Basically,
most walking tours concentrate on one specific
area (i.e., Montmartre, Marais, etc.) for 1-2 hrs.
Anyway, the Timeout Guides are a good source for
this info and they are actually the company who
publish the weekly English-lang. pages in Pariscope
(as tours change all the time, a current issue of
Pariscope would only list the ones on that week--I don't think Pariscope's WEB site includes this info). Just go to www.timeout.co.uk
and then click on Paris, Tourist Information,
then Tours. It will give you Eng-lang tour info,
as well as bus and Seine boat tour info.
