We will be staying in Bercy on our upcoming trip to Paris. Should we just take the Metro into Paris or is it worthwhile to walk along the Seine at least once? Left bank or right bank?

I haven' been to Bercy, but I'm sure it would be nice to walk along the Seine at least once, providing you're not going to go to, say, the Louvre or Arc du Triomph or any place that you'd have to stand around. I think the Left Bank would be nice, with the modern architecture featuring there, but why not start off with the right bank as you'll be starting there first, and cross whenever catches your fancy.

Take time to sit down and enjoy some refreshment too.

Thanks. I'm wondering if there are any really scenic walks from Bercy towards central Paris. Or would we be walking through seedy or industrial areas? My older Michelin guide to Paris barely mentions Bercy. We can just take the Metro everyday, but I'd hate to miss out on a great walk!

The Bercy area has been completely redevloped from the decaying wine warehouses that dominated the sector not long ago. a splendid new park and the wine warehouses are now upscale boutiques and wine bars.

There is a neat walk to central paris.

From Bercy Park cross the spanking new and highly acclaimed new bridge (named after a famous woman writer whose name escapes me - Simone ....) to the Left Bank of the Seine and then follow paths along the river up to Notre Dame

This area has become an alfresco statue park on contemporary art and is all spiffed up (except for the ubiquitous 'clochards' making crude shelters under the bridges) - very nice all the way to Notre Dame and no more than two miles if that. And just before Notre-Dame you could cross the Seine and walk thru the quaint Ile St Louis to Notre Dame.

I don't think the paths go continuosly on the Right Bank from Bercy.

There is also a new area just east of Jardin des Plantes on the Left bank that has been re-designed by some famous architects. There was an article in last week's (or week before) New York Time Sunday Travel section. Someone here also posted a link to it...

We have walked to or from Bercy Village several times and have followed the left bank as well as the right bank. I think it's a toss-up as to which is better -- both are nice.

Yes lots of ways - can go thru the intimate streets of the Marais via Place des Vosges or even down the main drag Fauborg Ste Honore (?) and salivate at the boulangerie and deli windows showcasing treats - a lively commercial street.
